tell me whether to press the 'buy' button in my situation (bell tent related)

I am procrastinating..... I've talked about this before. We have camped a bit, we have a nylon 6 berth but there is lots about it I don't like. I can do a night, or two, but the novelty is wearing thin.

I want a 5m belltent. I had a voucher from work for long service but none of the companies who I want to buy from are able to use the voucher provided. I could however use the voucher for new camping beds (argos is covered) and a tealight chandelier (notonthehighstreet is also covered) and any other extras which would really be on my indulgent wishlist.

However, DH has been made redundant. I am confident he will find work, we are only on week 3 of this happening, and we have 10k in the bank as a result. I am being overly cautious about spending a single penny, but the kids have been told that their summer holiday is cancelled because of DH's situation (we had planned a 2 week motorhome hire) and we are all feeling throughly shit about the situation with 6 long weeks in front of us with nothing fun to look forward to.

Would I be stupid to buy the tent? I want to give the kids some happy memories.... I want a pleasant summer. We have crappy neighbours which I need to escape from too, as often as we possibly can. We were due to move house but pulled out because of this situation.

What would you do?

I can vouch for that Blu. I regularly am able to gain the power of extra sensory perception whilst sitting under my pyramid porch when it's raining. Only when it's raining mind. If it's dry I sometimes get the power of telekenesis.
You don't get that with a bell tent.

Slubber: does your new bunting interfere with the reception at all?

I have a pop up nylon tent and can't even get the local cab office....not even a crackle Sad

Slubberdegullion · 23/07/2014 09:28

Bunting wipes out all superpowers. In fact I read an article in the BMJ just a few months ago that a multi-centre research project has shown that exposure to excessive buntery, even over a couple of days, slows the reflexes, increases the risk of falls and gives you a dry itchy scalp.

In the my new De Waard I'm going to transmogrify into Jean Grey.

Less of the vibe that bell tents have The Palamos 6 is way more vibey than yawnsome bell tents. The thinking woman's choice.

Slubberdegullion · 23/07/2014 10:02

Uh oh.

Pru just hit the wasps nest with a stick.

Palamos are currently half price on Obelink - ans they do look lovely.
I fell in love with a bell tent long before they were yawnsome. Now every bugger has one ;) I'm going to hope some vibey superpowers rub off on my by association ( does it count if my friend has a sparkly new de waard being delivered any minute?!)

MinimalistMommi · 23/07/2014 12:36

I lurve my bell, they are not yawnsome stamps foot

Blu · 23/07/2014 13:56

Ok, OK, What I meant was "Less of the vibe that bell tents have...and more of the vibe that Palamos have"

They have different but equal vibes.

ViviPru · 23/07/2014 14:10

Ok ok

They do have an undeniable charm, I admit.

MinimalistMommi · 23/07/2014 16:43

Grin vivi

I'm wishing I had some bunting, I've had my bell tent for five years no and still haven't got around to buying any or fairy lights!

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 23/07/2014 21:27

Blimey you lot would be useless on AIBU. The bell tent v palamos row could have run on for pages. Here apologies were made and accepted and the gin cracked open in two or three posts. Where's the fun in that?

Wanders off to find a SAHM/WOHM bunfight

ViviPru · 23/07/2014 21:34

That's campers for you Smile

3bunnies · 23/07/2014 21:48

Obelink is even more tempting in reality - rooms and rooms full of lovely tents. Just make sure you have at least 3-4 hrs to wander, we only saw tiny bit of it. Ours is like the Alaska but 6 person.

Of course the sensible thing is to wait until DH has another job, but then it is a bell tent. Hope something comes up soon.

Blu · 24/07/2014 23:19

I wouldn't feel safe in Obelink.
