Going camping for the first time in a while. Been put off over-bouncy airbed mattresses (and they always seem to puncture) but thinking about cheap alternatives. Have a tent with a built-in groundsheet and was thinking of buying some of these from Aldi to act as a sort of extra layer of insulation on the floor.

Would put down further roll-mats and perhaps a duvet on top and sleep in sleeping bags. Does this sound mad?

Not sure we are in the market for buying those self-inflating 5cm thick mats as between the four of us it would end up pricey.

I think they'd definitely help keep you a bit drier/warmer bit don't know how soft they would be as a sleeping surface, iyswim.

I think we got our self-inflating ones from Decathlon, and they were quite good-value. Are you driving? If so you may just want to fill the car with duvets and blankets and create a little nest when you get there!

Yes, we are driving and might end up stuffing some duvets in. Having a trial night with just foam mats and sleeping bags in the garden tonight. Should be interesting!

Ooh they look like some form of dark torture!

I know you said you didn't fancy an airbed but this Coleman Comfort is brilliant as it has two separate air chambers so you don't bounce around or disturb your partner. That's the cheapest I've seen it for too...

I would be ok on those, or a roll out mat by itself, so it sounds good to me. Kids are OK on roll up foam mars IME so you could start with cheap Aldi SIMS. Just for adults? My Aldi SIMS are excellent.

That Coleman Comfort does look good ViviPru - last time I used an inflatable it was like sleeping on a bouncy castle and then a very thin layer of deflated plastic Grin Might give it another shot though. What is an Aldi SIMS Blu and are they still selling them? Off to google!

I think the Aldi mats are great as added insulation/thickness, but I wouldn't want to rely on them as my only sleeping surface. If you are a family of four, get two sets - I only have one and basically, a row of three per person fits. So we're 6 mats short!

Yes, Aldi do good cheap SIMs - ring around and see if anyone has any left. Might have some in a back room somewhere... I've found Aldi store managers very helpful in these sorts of situations.
