As daft as this sounds, usually I have my little list started for things I need to take for the DD's (8 and 5). Can you please help me draft one up? We are going to La Rochelle and also Il de Re so it'll be hot.
Huge thanks!

Shorts and t-shirts. One warm fleece/jumper. Sun hat. Swimming costumes. One nice-ish outfit if you plan on going to fancy restaurant.

But really, shorts and t-shirts.

At that age... H and M sundresses. They're normally about £4 and are great for sunny camping holidays. Cosy socks for nighttime too...just in case!! A pack away raincoat...be prepared!

TheFantasticMrsFox · 07/07/2014 13:51

Sundresses/ shorts
Tshirts
One smart(ish) outfit if necessary
Flip flops/ crocs for pool/ showers/ beach
Sandals or canvas shoes for daytime
Jumper/ fleece
One pair of leggings etc in case it gets very cold unexpectedly- DS has never forgiven me for the Cornwall debacle when I had to go out and buy jogging bottoms before he would leave the tent :o
Sunhat for daytime, wooly hat for nighttime
Pyjamas, socks, maybe a onesie depending on how cold they are likely to get
Waterproof
Swimming costume

Great list. Thanks!

Re towels - what do you do after showering in the shower block? I've seen lots of those shower poncho type things, but whenever I've gone to buy a couple, the have deep splits up both sides, so not such a great idea after all if they won't cover up my DD's.

The Boden towel robes are brilliant, more like a dress with a hood than a poncho and DD wore them to come off the beach and eat as well as going to/from the showers. They're £££ but they are very good quality and you can usually pick them up on eBay half price or less.

This sort of thing: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gorgeous-Hoody-beach-robe-towelling-robe-girl-age-9-10-from-Mini-Boden-/181455822516?pt=UK_Girls_Tops&hash=item2a3f9c1eb4

I'm trying to remember what we did when we stayed in Il De Re 2 years ago and tbh it was so hot there we didn't really need to do much drying off, we were able to get dressed in the shower block (pjs or a sundress usually) and come out like that.

Youdontneedacriminallawyer · 07/07/2014 16:04

Get dressed in the shower block - either into pjs/dressing gown, or into day clothes, depending on the time of the shower.

Yy to the Boden towelling dresses, they are awesome.

I might a add
Suncream and after sun
Some quiet type distractions for early rising, sticker books, colouring in etc?
Wellies
Buckets and spades
Cheap pop up tent for the beach
Sharpe knife
Corkscrew
Olive oil- stupidly expensive en France
Tea bags

I'm trying microfibre swimming towels this year to cut down on space. You may also need mini budgie smugglers as some pools don't allow baggy swimming trunks.
Crocs or fake crocs are essential.

Flip flops!

Your holiday sounds awesome op!

We're going to charente maritime this year and I'm very glad to hear it might get hot weather

speechiesusie · 12/07/2014 22:57

We stayed in the Dordogne last August. It was 11 degrees at night, we were freezing.

I would recommend an all seasons sleeping bag, leggings and socks!
