Hmm...dilemma

Electric hookups only available on pitches that back up to the shower blocks on the other side of the hedge.

Do I choose the convenience of electric hookup, or the peace and quiet of the further side of the field?

Peace & quiet

yellowdinosauragain · 27/06/2014 10:37

Another vote for peace and quiet. But then I never use ehu so it wouldn't be a hard decision for me.

ShoeWhore · 27/06/2014 10:42

Peace and quiet would win hands down for me every time.

TheFantasticMrsFox · 27/06/2014 14:03

Peace and quiet but never use EHU anyway :)

SixImpossible · 27/06/2014 14:42

OTOH electric means working coolbox and rechargeable lantern. But TBH that's all it means. I'm leaning towards relative peace and quiet.

You could go for peace and quite but hen go over to the plugs to charge your phone or something?!

HappyAgainOneDay · 28/06/2014 20:02

Would you be allowed to use long extension leads from the 'peace and quiet' areas all the way to the sockets?

pictish · 28/06/2014 20:06

Peace and quiet without a doubt.

I always boggle at those that like to pitch up next to the shower block, with everyone traipsing back and forth.

CharmQuark · 30/06/2014 16:53

Peace and quiet.

But I am an EHU refusenik.

TheFantasticMrsFox · 30/06/2014 19:36

Arf at "EHU refusenik" charm
Perhaps we could form a society with badges and everything :o

SixImpossible · 30/06/2014 20:41

Peace and quiet it is. I shall charge everything up at home, and freeze blocks in the shop freezer.

But the charge on my phone won't last.

get a solar charger for the phone, or a car charger

yellowdinosauragain · 01/07/2014 13:38

The solar chargers we've tried have been proper shite. Do you have any recommendations nettletea? I've got an external charger that you charge off the mains first then it will provide 2 full charges to most smart phones. Dh bought it for me but I don't know where from. I'll double check and get back to you if you're interested.

TheFantasticMrsFox · 01/07/2014 13:42

I think Aldi had one of those chargers nettle in their recent camping event. Was sorely tempted but TBH I can charge my phone up in the van and I didn't want charging DS's (and DH's Hmm) iPads to be any easier than necessary :o

SixImpossible · 01/07/2014 16:23

I can chargd my phone in the car, but it's an iPhone so needs charging every day - I don't want to go for a long drive every day!

CharmQuark · 01/07/2014 16:57

I have a gadget that I bought in Sainsbury's for about £5 and I plug it in to the battery socket in the boot of my car (can also plug it into the cigarrette lighter socket) and charge while driving. It had adaptors for all manner of phones.

iwantavuvezela · 01/07/2014 16:59

Your iPhone should charge even if the car is not running. I found this out when I needed my iPad charging and realised it worked without having to drive!

TheFantasticMrsFox · 01/07/2014 17:03

Yes, just turn the key one or two clicks and the phone will charge. However, do not leave it plugged in too long or your battery will go flat and you will have to pay an extortionate fee to a garage to come and rescue you

CharmQuark · 01/07/2014 17:12

Yes - my phone charges when the car is parked, but I worry about FantasticFox's flat battery debacle, especially when the door keeps being left open for ages when packing and unpacking etc.

EHU refusenik Grin

Put me down for a badge.

On the topic of EHUs I had a little snicker to myself reading a review on UKCampsite the other day which lamented the "lack of EMUs" on a site. Outsize flightless Antipodean birds are always top of my list of camping must-haves.

SixImpossible · 01/07/2014 19:13

Quite so MrsFox - there speaks the voice of experience.

SixImpossible · 01/07/2014 19:22

BTW I am most definitely not an EHU refusenik. Once upon a time camping for me meant wild-camping, dig-yer-own-privvy, etc. Those times are loooong gone! These days anything longer than 2-3 nights and I refuse to do it without EHU. My preferred form of camping now involves solid walls, en suite, a bed raised on legs and someone else to make it. The budget, however does not stretch to that form of camping.

ViviPru · 01/07/2014 19:46

I'm only so gung ho in my EHU refusenikism due to the fact we take a VW transporter van camping with us along with its monster battery. Although to my off-grid credit, we only tend to use it to charge phones and the DAB, and to power the airbed pump.

pictish · 01/07/2014 21:29

I'm not an EHU refusenik either...if they've got it, we'll use it...if not we'll happily do without.
Quite handy having a hairdryer in the tent.

CharmQuark · 01/07/2014 21:46

Snort an EMU refuseniks Grin

Roy Hudd has a lot to answer for.
