First Time Camping With A Two Year Old

We're going camping with our two year old in July. My partner has been before but I've never been. What should I get for my toddler to sleep in? At home he sleeps in a bed. Would you recommend a readybed or is it a better idea to get a sleeping bag?

I'd go for a sleeping bag so he feels like its all part of the adventure. You can get kids ones that he'll get a few years out of since you're starting him young!! Put blankets under it as well as the mat to keep any chill off and heat it with a bottle first (unless you're lucky enough to get a heatwave when you go)!!

we are going for ready bed since we have one, and i might see if she stil lfits in a 6-18mo winter baby sleeping bag if required. might also take her duvet to lie on if need be. warm jammies etc.

ReadyBeds have a blow-up mattress don't they? Air beds are not at all warm to sleep on - provide no insulation from the cold ground - so a sleeping bag on a SIM or even a cheap roll-up foam camping mat might be better.

On the other hand they can wriggle off those and end up sleeping on the ground anyway, while a ready bed keeps them on the mattress, I think.

We put our two year old on a double air bed with a blanket over the top, in a sleeping bag www.gooutdoors.co.uk/hi-gear-ridgeline-convertible-sleeping-bag-p194422. Quite a warm bag though! You can put a belt around the bottom of any bag to make it smaller.

My 2yo is currently sleeping on a single SIM which is inside an extra large sleeping bag, so no rolling off issues. He is also wearing a padded sleepsuit over normal pyjamas, it is cold at night despite the glorious daytime weather!

Ready beds are great for that age group. Put a roll mat underneath it for insulation of it's cold at night. Don't try using a sleeping bag on a lilo as they always roll off. A sleeping bag on a roll mat works OK though

Take full waterproofs - ie one of those all in one suits and wellies. They are great for rain, wet grass, puddles, mud, everything really.

selvedge that is genius!

Why, thank you very much nilbyname. It worked a treat.

Home now though and looking forward to my proper bed!
