LoveMyGirls, we're just back from our 4th short camping trip this year with ds (3.10) & dd (10months). We took a travel cot & her usual sheets, blankets, etc. At night she wore vest, 1 or 2 pairs of tights, pyjamas & thick jumper. She slept fine on her own in the travel cot the first couple of nights but after that she refused to settle in it & I had to leave her to sleep on my sleeping bag with her blankets over her and then in my sleeping bag when I went to bed. She did wake up more than normal but may have been because she knew I was there. It was a bit uncomfortable & I had to have the sleeping at chest height rather than upto my chin, but with blankets draped over the zip side we kept each other nice and warm. Not sure if this is good or bad, but I ended up going to bed shortly after her because we couldn't go out anywhere & if we'd made too much noise it would have woken her up.

We ended up using the travel cot as a playpen when the grass was damp, but other than that she sat on a travel rug. Food was her usual breakfast with formula or uht milk & mainly jars for lunch or dinner & used the primus stove to heat up water/food. She probably didn't eat or drink quite as much as usual & probably did taste a few bits of grass but apart from that she absolutely loved it. Tell your PIL to take way too many clothes as they will need changing more often than usual and expect countless loads of washing when they get back (our dd is in cotton nappies & we left these outside the back of the tent & half-hoped someone would try & steal them!)

Hope they have a lovely time.

We camped in France this summer with DS 1 (3.4) and DS2 (one whilst there!) I think taking the high chair was a life saver just so he could be strapped down at times!!!!

Plenty of things to occupy her in the morning when they are the first family awake on the whole of the campsite and aware that everyone can hear every squeal, cry or shriek from your family!! Afraid I suffer from camping paranoia (spelling?)which I know i need to get over as people keep me awake on a night so why shouldn't I wake them up at 6.30!!
