Tent porn... Does anyone know of good advice?

Looks like we will have to replace our gorgeous old canvas tent- mice have been eating it Sad.

Does anyone know of any sites which have advice on how to choose between the different options (style, material, type of poles...)

Currently I'm eyeing up a 6 berth version of our old one, but have realised I know very little about how all the different factors work together. For example, I didn't realise that canvas is cooler than polyester.

Okay...we have both canvas and poly. Poly tents we get from Outwell...they're fab.
Recently upgraded to a DeWaard Albatross after years of lusting after one. I adore it. We had to go to Holland to get it as they don't have a UK stockist. There is a website for them if you google but it's in Dutch. The staff at Vrijbuiter store in Gouda were amazingly helpful when we went to buy and they have heaps of Dewaard tents built there to look at. There is also a huge range of other makes too. It's worth the cheap overnight ferry from Hull if you live remotely near there. Saying that, we live in Scotland and still figured it was worth the trip!
A canvas one tent will be pricier but it they are cooler if you tend to camp abroad.

Happy tent hunting!

Thanks Claire.

Can't justify a trip abroad for one but I think a canvas one is worth considering as we don't like the heat.

However I do fancy an Outwell- are they all polyester tents? Have eyed up tunnel tents in the past but wonder if two door style is better to go for with kids in and out. Although an awkward shaped footprint is a PITA on crowded sites...

Outwell do canvas too. Most of their tunnels have a back and front door as such. Most times the back door has a mesh screen so you can let the air blow through without the bugs getting in. Best to go sit with a cuppa and work your way through Youtube videos of pitching...you get to see loads of tents that way without leaving your sofa!! Outwell have videos on their site too I think. Have fun...I'm almost missing not having to go tent shopping this year!
