My much beloved but slightly Eeyoreish DH maintained that he would not camp in the UK anymore, then recently admitted that a long weekend might be ok (as it's either that or no holiday this year)
He then agreed (surprisingly easily) that we could go to France next year with our gear I got him drunk for that one
Lastly and perhaps most excitingly, tonight he has finally been seduced by pictures of lovely bell tents with bunting and lanterns (I open several windows on his iPad that he has to scroll through before he can look at Land Rover porn- subliminal messaging :o)
Admittedly we have glossed over the price but the extras for our existing Vango would cost a sizeable amount so.... :o :o :o

If you've got him too that far…we have a DeWaard Albatross with a huge Varioliful (sunshade) that is the business!! I have a LandRover obsessed hubby too so fairly sure yours will like it. Downside is…you have to go to Holland to buy one as they don't do them over here! Think I've posted pic…first time so maybe there will just be a blank space!!

OMG CampingClaire - I am in total tent envy Envy

That is my dream tent! Is it very heavy?

hillbilly · 16/05/2014 11:30

Sorry TheFantasticMrsFox - I was so in awe of CampingClaire's tent that I forgot top say CONGRATULATIONS! It took me years to convince DH to camp so I totally get your excitement Grin

CampingClaire · 16/05/2014 12:07

It is really heavy but simple to put up and hubby then spends a happy time on his own pegging it out to the perfection stage!!
it was our dream tent for years and we only got it last year when we knew that camping on the continent was going to be our main holiday for a good few years!! Spent years working our way through the Outwell range as the kids were growing up - separate bed pods etc. This has a big bed space with a curtain to divide…they do a larger 3 bed option!!

Claire - how long to pitch and to strike? Is the ground sheet sew in in living area? Hate SIG on canvas

PeterParkerSays · 16/05/2014 15:14

Ooh, we're going to Holland on holiday next summer now I've persuaded DH that it's more economical to go on the ferry than to fly. Off to make a note for summer 2015.

CampingClaire · 16/05/2014 20:49

Ok...the groundsheet is sewn in but you buy and hang the cotton inside curtains separately. The base is kind of rubber and really hardwearing...these tents are meant to last a lifetime! We pitched on spikier gravel than our drive in France last year and the dents had disappeared before we'd got home (we were ready to complain to site if damaged but there was none!!). We use our Outwell carpet for the Maryland to cover the floor - it's almost the same size. They do a carpet but we're a bit mean and decided to use the one we already had - surprisingly!!
To pitch without pegging ( the hubby's job) probably takes about 30 mins but that'll get quicker over time. Have back end pics that I'll post another time - they're on a different computer! The pegging is the bit that makes it beautiful. The sunshade just zips on so it's super quick. Check out DeWaard online - unfortunately its all in Dutch with no English option but if you go to the stores their English is perfect (so embarrassing being a Brit sometimes)!!!

And this is the Albatross big brother !!! Those variolouffels are fabulous, though ours almost took off last week in the gales - tent stood up in a hurricane though!

(hoping picture loads....)

They're just fab tents...how long have you had yours? We spent years being nosy around them on campsites before deciding we could justify the spend!! We've only used ours in France so apart from a few thunderstorms...it's only had to deal with extreme heat.

TheFantasticMrsFox · 17/05/2014 09:34

They look great, though sadly not enough soft furnishings for DH who is positively embracing the whole glamping aspect now :o

Haha...yes...you'd need a lorry travelling behind to carry the fourposter bed!! I would say that I try and deck mine out with loads of floor cushions etc in a 'I'm trying to make it look like a Bedouin' style but I appreciate the appeal of a ready made setup!
Wherever you get him to go is a bonus really!!

TheFantasticMrsFox · 17/05/2014 16:36

^ this is what DH has in mind :o
Today we had to go to town to buy a cricket box and he took me into the material shop to look at material for cushions- quite frankly he is not the same man I married :o

Well they do say that a change is as good as a rest!!!

NettleTea · 22/05/2014 17:34

Not enough soft furnishings you say???

Hip hip hooray <gleeful jig>
CampingClaire · 22/05/2014 17:38

NettleTea....oh my!!! I thought mine was decked out like a Bedouin tent but ..... You are the Queen of camping comfort!! How do you transport all that?

NettleTea · 22/05/2014 17:39

We dont Blush
Its up. And then it stays up until it comes down......
(I have to confess here to running a glamping site)

TheFantasticMrsFox · 22/05/2014 23:21

Yes nettle exactly like that :o
TBH we are hiring a van as our car is not suitable in so many ways so we do have space for copious cushions and throws :o
