Can anyone personally recommend a campsite in the south where we can have a campfire and that also has decent loos/shower block.

Forgewood, Wowo, Welsummer....

There are loads - you can search the CampsiteUK lists via the campfire filter.

TweenageAngst · 06/05/2014 20:16

Blackberry woods and Wowo.

HanSolo · 06/05/2014 20:21

Eweleaze- only open in August though

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 06/05/2014 21:15

Thanks. I have searched on CampsiteUK using the campfire filter but I was hoping for some personal recommendations as to where is good.

At the risk of boring those who frequent the board can I suggest have a look at my blog. I write full reviews with lots of pictures of campsites all of which allow campfires, pretty much all in the South UK. There is a clickable map too. I usually mention the quality of the toilets etc too as most people do want to know. It is not impossible to get a campfire campsite with lovely shower blocks but they do tend to be a bit more on the wilder side. If you have particular interest in a campsite and want to know more post a comment on the blog and I will respond as fully as I can! Hope that helps. Smile

Thanks hz. I have read your blog before but I will go back now and have another look.

Pool Bridge, Exmoor is lovely (on hz's blog)

beccajoh · 07/05/2014 11:04

Eweleaze

hillbilly · 07/05/2014 11:54

I would add Town Farm to the list, although it's in Buckinghamshire. Britchcombe Farm is a favourite with many on here too.

hz · 07/05/2014 21:06

Whilst both Eweleaze and Britchcombe have their many charms I wouldn't particulalry rate their toilets among them. Eweleaze are very basic indeed, with only a muddy standpipe to wash you hands - last time I went anyway. And Britchcombe does have a semi reasonable toliet block but has only two toilets which are miles from most of the fields. Otherwise its portaloos, personaly my least favourite of all toileting facilities! Blurgh! Give me a decdent compost loo any day! Shallishanti - I think I will def visit Pool Bridge this year, love Exmoor and can't bring myself to go back to the money grabbers at Cloud Farm, and Caffyns though nice was rather windy! Does have brand new toliet facilites though TheFutureSupremeRulersMum.

Depending where in the South but here are 2 good cotswolds ones

www.tobacconistfarm.co.uk/

this was ok - would recommend camping in the 'glade' bit
www.farpeakcamping.co.uk/camping/index.html

we also like town farm agree with hz re toilets at britchcombe- we really like it but it is quite basic..and can also be windy..

there is also Inwood but thought it was a bit 'scruffy' and basic..

hillbilly · 08/05/2014 11:38

Abbotstone Wood near basingstoke was fab. It's the sister site to Forgewood and Inwood.

Blu · 08/05/2014 11:48

Yes, I have held off mentioning some good 'wild' sites as the toilets are rustic, and one of my favorite sites doesn't have a shower.

TheFutureSupremeRulersMum · 08/05/2014 11:49

I really like the look of tobacconist farm flippety. Does it get very busy?

OP posts:
blackteaplease · 08/05/2014 11:51

I have just spent the weekend at Abbotstone wood and it was lovely. The toilets and showers are in portaloos but well kept and clean.

hillbilly · 08/05/2014 14:01

blacktea - was it busy? We were there last July when it had only been open a while and it was super quiet. Probably only about 6 tents!

MummyPigsFatTummy · 08/05/2014 14:15

Chafford Park is lovely: chaffordpark.co.uk/camping-at-chafford-park/. One loo block, solidly constructed. They only had two loos per sex last time we were there, but they were very nice.

And they allow fires and come round in the evening and sell firewood.

I also like St Ives Farm but I really can't recommend the loos as they are all portaloos (at least the ones near where we were). Still a great site though.

blackteaplease · 08/05/2014 14:19

Not particularly. We were with a large group at one end of the big field, another group of 4 tents at the opposite end and a few odd tents scattered around the trees. It felt really empty as there was so much space. Never had to queue for the toilet/shower.

blackteaplease · 08/05/2014 14:25

Oh, I meant to say that Abbotstone are in the process of putting a couple of compost loos round the edge of the big field.

Pimpf · 09/05/2014 23:38

Forgewood is a stunning site, only downside is that depending on weather conditions fires can be restricted, to be fare, this has only happened once to us. Really friendly owners and staff, especially Kate.

Wowo is also very beautiful but I really, dislike their pricing structure, they now charge £5 per car per night, how many people realistically go camping with a car full of shit?! Wish they'd justo be upfront re what they want to charge. It's a shame really as it is beautiful

Kitts farm, not been there recently but was amazing a few years ago though very basic, but I'm pretty sure they've loos and showers now

They would be my top 3 in the se

flippetygibbet · 10/05/2014 11:35

Tobacconist - only has 20 pitches as its not very big site, the owner was lovely and the shower block had washing machine freezer etc... and in the village a fantastic dairy with lovely icecream and cheese ! there isn't masses of running around space but seemed enough when we were there as was smallish climbing frame ...and you can easily walk to the common ...
