I am going camping on Saturday for a week. Up here the weather hasn't been too good - whats it like down there and does anyone know what the forecast is supposed to be for next week?

If you are going to Burnham, it should be ok for the weekend - one of my friends lives there and have just spoken to them!
Depending on how old your child/children are there are quite a few things to do undercover. There is a place called Animal Farm (I think from memory) near Burnham that has a huge indoor play area as well as seeing farm pets.Very child friendly and parents can relax there too.
A small tip re beach - head to the eastern side of the beach (towards Brean) to keep away from the mud and river outlet, which is the very far end of the beach towards Bridgwater. The beach is much nicer towards the dunes etc and they do good fish and chips on the front!

TwoToTango · 15/08/2006 20:25

Thanks MM - got one very lively 6 year old. Will look up both of those things you mention. I have also planned to go to Wookey Hole and perhaps Cheddar Gorge - Just hope its dry for when we put the tent up otherwise I can foresee a serious domestic!!

twocatsonthebed · 16/08/2006 12:16

and you're also, if I've got this right, quite close to me. I'm in a place with a luxury luggage factory shop and nothing else...

TwoToTango · 16/08/2006 15:51

Just emailed the campsite and they haven't had much rain lately. Has anyone been to Cheddar Gorge - what exactly is there, is there anything to entertain children?

Beetroot i know where you are.

MuddyMum · 16/08/2006 20:01

Cheddar Gorge: good caves etc. Can't say much about the village as haven't been there for years, although someone told me recently it had been developed and was interesting. Some good walks around the area too.

MuddyMum · 16/08/2006 20:08

Can tell I'm bored: their website is www.cheddarcaves.co.uk

TwoToTango · 16/08/2006 20:28

Thanks MM i'll have a look - didn't even know there was a village there.

Trouble is i've already paid for the campsite. They wanted all payment up front as its peak season. Might go to Devon next time - its a beautful part of the country. Glad your dd got her outside party - bet they loved the waterslide.

Would second Animal Farm for wet weather. Think Wookey Hole would be good as well as they have lots of new stuff by the look of the posters. Haven't been in the caves in Cheddar as DD freaked in caves in Wookey. The Gorge is fairly commercialised but there is, well was, a lovely Teddy Bear shop and cheese place etc. There's also Court Farm near Banwell which has got indoor Barns for wet weather. Wacky Warehouse in Weston with the Bucket & Spade for lunch. Swimming at Sports Centre at Cheddar. Bit more of a trek but Crealy down near Exeter is fine for wet weather. Afternoon tea in Banwell Castle, there's a conservatory and chickens and peacocks outside in the grounds. A nice pub for food is the Red Cow in Brent Knoll and there's a nice little village playground close by. Sanders Garden Centre just up from Junction 22 M5 has a cafe and a great big pirate ship play area for if drier. If desperate you could resort to the pier in Weston. Or shoot down the motorway to Bristol where there's lots more indoor stuff to do.

Beetroot, you are fairly closed to where we used to be. We've just been deciding whether to come back and were house hunting a couple of weeks ago. Decided to stay put down in Dorset though for now.

Beetroot · 18/08/2006 13:20

you could have had a coffee!!

Beetroot · 18/08/2006 13:21

now it is raining and sunny

Enid · 18/08/2006 13:22

tortoise I didnt see you in Tescos this morning

is your shell distinctive?

I was the one looking at the pack of Innocent smoothies and saying 'my god no way are you having those in your lunchbox look at the price'

clairemow · 18/08/2006 13:28

hi twototango, I'm afraid it's been pissing down in Bristol all day today, and we had a massive electric storm at 4 am last night... Had a quick check on BBC, and it's going to rain tomorrow, but Sun, Mon and Tues should be cloudy / sunny.

If you change your mind and want to book a Haven caravan, I know the manager of the site in Burnham... Could ask him if there are spaces for you!

another suggestion if it pours - @Bristol - there's an IMAX cinema, indoor rainforest and big hands on sciency type museum thing aimed at kids which is great. It's down by the Docks.

Also at the top of Park St is the city museum - it's free and has quite a few things to look at, like dinosaur bones and I don't know how you feel about stuffed animals but they have loads, DS loves them.

yeahinaminute · 18/08/2006 13:40

P**sing down in Bath and not looking good for the weekend.

You can get a day pass to Butlins in Minehead - near to Burnham - on - Sea which has loads for the kids to do there.

Agree with clairemow - @Bristol is fab and there's also the joys of Bristol Zoo.

Cheddar is also a good shout ditto W-S-M and Banwell for the farm - Or come to not so sunny Bath (as long as you have obscene amounts of money to pay for everything!!)

tortoise · 18/08/2006 13:43

My shell is very distinctive! Not been in tesco for a while though!
Weather looks better for sunday.

clairemow · 18/08/2006 17:56

you'll be pleased to know it's been sunny here all afternoon, everything's dried out and no more thunder. hurrah!
