Just back from our first one-night trip.

We went here in the end. Would highly recommend it to anyone.

The children and I loved it but I think DH is going to need a bit more convincing...

Problems

  1. Insects in the evening. We got the Avon spray stuff and we escaped any bites as far as I can see. But it didn't stop the blighters coming for a nosey. Do these candles work at all?

  2. He felt sore this morning and said he didn't sleep too well on the airbed. I wonder if we inflated the bed enough. There was a fair bit of "movement" and I felt slightly sea sick when I got up!

  3. We got the Kingsize sleeping bag from argos. Think SS and Peachy recommended it. Found that when we turned over in our sleep we woke each other up. I wonder if single bags would be better?

Anyway, I am keen to repeat the experience in a few weeks, preferably for a weekend. Sure DH will be persuaded too!

Glad it went well.We have had a practise erection (oo-er) at the out-laws and are planning our first trip this w/e....

We've just changed to two single airbeds and I find them much better than a double. We can move and roll around independently in the night without the other one being bounced around too. We go for a sheet on top and a duvet (frilly one too!) instead of a sleeping bag. We just got back from a 10 day camping trip and some nights I slept as well I would have in my own bed.

Blow up the airbed more, that is vital, we have it really hard and even 19 stone dh doesn't wake me. We also do the sheet and duvet thing, and pillows as it is far more cosy

Do you have and electric hook up? we have one of those electric fly zappers that we turn on at night and it is fab. It gives a soft blue 'glow' inside the tent, so it isn't pitch black, and kills all the bugs. You can get them that are rechargeable (ours is) so charge at home and it will go all night!

Unzip your sleeping bags so you have one on the bottom & a separate one on the top. We had them zipped together to make a big one - once and did exactly the same as you, so unzipped em and it's fine now. HTH

Good idea, UCM, but the sleeping bag is one big one and doesn't zip all the way round.

Will try blowing the air bed up more next time. I think we'll probably only have one more trip this year. If that's no better, we might get 2 singles next year.

I third the duvet suggestion.

SlightlyFamiliarPeachyClair · 09/08/2006 15:25

(??? sleeping bag???? sure it was me? Peachy a bit confused- we use a readybed)

Sorry. Must have been Sallystrawberry

I sleep better on an airbed when I take a pillow...

Gillian76 · 09/08/2006 20:22

We took our own pillows off our bed.

Think it needed inflated more.

Yes it probably did. Have you got one of those battery operated inflators (can plug into cigarette lighter of car). Takes the pain out of inflating air beds

Gillian76 · 09/08/2006 21:36

Twas a battery pump. Did a double and 3 singles in about 10 mins
