Portaloo?

I'd quite like to use a few more basic campsites this year, meaning a portaloo might be needed. Does anyone have any advice/words of wisdom? I am sort of going out of my comfort zone here, but think it might be worth it for some of the lovely, out of the way campsites that we will be able to stay at.. Many thanks!

Yep, we use the luggable loo from go outdoors with green gloop in it. Even when on campsites with loos now (although with a no solids agreement when loos available!)! Fragrant even in the heatwave.

I'm with brambles on the luggable loo (not literally you understand ) and the green gloop, which I think is called natures friend by blue diamond

We don't have a no solids rule either as the green gloop is so effective you can't smell it! I would never have believed this until we used it for a weekend on an organised wild camping site with no facilities and it is a revelation!

So whatever loo you go for don't twat about with nappies / cat litter / other stuff people will try to convince you of. Magic green gloop all the way.....

Thanks both for the replies - will do a little research. Do you have a separate toilet tent too? I kind of feel that this will be a necessity as its not just for the kids...

No no separate tent.

When on the organised wild camping site it just goes behind a bush during the day and in the porch at night - the pitches are huge and there's very little chance of anyone seeing you. Otherwise it just goes in the porch.

But then as a family we're not self conscious of stuff like this. If you are a toilet tent is a good plan but it would have negated one of the reasons we got it which was to be able to use the toilet at night without leaving the tent.

No, no sep tent here either. But my boys are grown up and I put it where it is unlikely to spill overnight (usually my use only overnight, the men have stronger bladders!). Be careful though, I did have a friend have one knocked over in her tent, all in her packing...

Yellow - I think you can dig a hole and bury the contents if you're wild camping?

And Yellow, you can park up your bucket bog next to mine any time.

I love our Kampa Khazi.... don't use any green gloop, but spray copious amounts of Dettol antibacterial spray on it daily. No no. 2's unless an emergency!
