Camping in Andalucia, looking for small and quiet campsite

Planning to drive down to Spain this summer and spend 3 weeks in Andalucia. We'd like to stay in a couple of different campsites and am looking for somewhere a bit off the beaten track. Trying to avoid a massive campsite with hundreds of pitches.
Can anyone recommend a small campsite, basic facilities are fine, a pool would be nice but not essential. We will be travelling with 3DC age 3,5 and 7.
Costal or up in the hills is fine.
Thanks

Oh my goodness that sounds fab.we only made it to Tarragona last year.how odd you cope with the heat without a pool?
are you taking the ferry?do you speak Spanish?(your chosen subject is and you start now!;)h

Hi motherofluvlies, we are taking the ferry to Bilbao then driving down, we speak a tiny bit of Spanish and I think we probably do need a pool or to be right on the beach, but used to live in Asia so are pretty good with heat.
I think we've narrowed it down to spending half the time in Tarifa and half somewhere near Cadiz...just need to find a small campsite near Cadiz.

Going to try and book this one near Tarifa

That looks amazing..I,m tempted.....one little thing,or big thing...KILLER WHALES ...in July/August...I know they are probably after the baby sperm whales but what if?Shock
it does sound like an amazing adventure.Last year we drove down thru France, onto South of Barcelona .We stayed there a bit longe than intended as our little girl broke her arm. Then back up to Annecy and into Switzerland(did the glacier) and then home (including various stopovers. We had intended to do West coast as we had visited there before briefly but then they had the train crash and I didnt want to be there for the mourning as you can't help but be affected and I didnt want to be sad(isn't that awful).
The wind would be a little cooler.....I,m not sure we could take the heat....but imagine if you saw the whales...omg that would be amazing..would you take a beachside plot?imagine waking up to that in the morning...Grin

Would you stop in Seville?

motherofluvlies · 20/01/2014 09:51

Our dc are 6yr old triplets ...as seasoned campers,do you have any other recommendations ?

hackneyzoo · 20/01/2014 17:15

Defo want to stop in Seville, and see whales. We are going to take the ferry over to Morrocco for the day, I did it when I was a yoof and we got followed the whole crossing by a shoal of dolphins.
We are really not seasoned campers, we ended up buying a bongo last spring and ended up having a great road trip accross France and through the pyranees last summer, so we're going to give it a go again and take the tent this time.
I've found some lovely looking campsites near Girona which I'm tempted by too, will have to wait til next year!
How do you keep you triplets entertained on long journeys, this is where I struggle. They don't have DSes or anything. What I really want is one of those sound proof screens that seperates the front passengers from the back...

Ah we are so funny...neither are we!i have 5 older children where we camped/mobile home around most of France and then had triplets after a substantial gap Smile !I,m finished with France.I can't take the stress of keeping these 3 in order and had no idea how much the Spanish love children.
we bought a soulpad last year on a quest for adventure (before its too lateand absolutely loved it.

motherofluvlies · 20/01/2014 21:35

We are used to driving to Ireland (a round 14 hr trip) so we've always done it.I have to say the journeys have been transformed by DVD s.we bought the triplets Hudl with this summer in mind .so we will see.I,ve just showed DH the route ...he,s up for it but I am definitely worried about the heat..but those whales......the other route I had suggested was down through Switzerland, venice, ferry to Greece or around to croatia.DH wanting to do Spain and as he does the driving Miss Daisy I do have bear him in mind Wink the thing is ,we got some couple time in playa de bara which is priceless as I am very particular about leaving the triplets.

Croatia was the other place that we fancied. Have wasted spent the last 3 hours getting lost on the internet looking up Andalucia, have it down to about 3 campsites now! We have a soulpad too, but have never tried it out in the heat, it has a sewn in bottom, but has built in mosquito nets, so am assuming we can sleep with door and window open.

Last year we just unrolled the sides every morning as security wasnt an issue.(it was an amazing site) the Avon spray recommended on here was amazing as a repellent.we had a gazebo for shade ,where we had our meals/ siesta games .We did however have nearby trees and nearby cold showers.I couldn't sleep at night with the sides up.have your sites got shade?

hackneyzoo · 20/01/2014 22:42

Yep, the sites I've found are all in wooded areas, so we should be ok. I have an awning somewhere too, although we've never managed to put it up successfully. Will check out the avon spray.
