The smug Cobb 'I can cook anything in a tent you can in your fully fitted kitchen' recipe thread

I thought it would be a good plan to get some recipes together for cooking on the Cobb.

My starter for ten is beer bread.

500g plain flour
a 330ml bottle of whatever beer you fancy
plenty of salt
oil for greasing the tin

Mix all together in a bowl. Grease round cake tin and put dough into this. Place on top of roasting rack in the Cobb with lid on and cook for about 30-40 mins.

Extra nice with the addition of herbs, garlic or chucks of feta cheese Smile

Anyone else?

How many people do you cook for on it?

YellowDinosaur · 28/01/2014 22:51

You can easily cook for a family of 4. You could supplement it by cooking veg / carbs on a traditional camping stove though. I think the most I cooked for using just that was 2 adults and 4 kids for bbq food plus bread and salads.

I am camping with the cobb at the weekend, with a big group of friends. We're sharing cooking on the first night, with a bbq type thing. Some people are doing burgers, some sausages, some kebabs etc. I'm wanting to show (off!) what the cobb can do and am thinking of something like this lamb I've done on a normal bbq before:

And I've volunteered for a pudding. Any good ideas for something that would feed a large group? I thought chocolate brownies might be good, as fairly shallow, rich (so only a small but needed) and most people like it.

Any feedback on these? Or good ideas for puddings especially?

Lamb looks delicious. I've made chocolate brownie (with packet mix) on the Cobb. Also fruit crumble. You could always be a right show off and try soufflé.... :o

I can't decide whether to cook them at home and warm up on cobb, or do the packet mix. Having read recipes I'd have to use the stove to melt the chocolate if I make from scratch on site, which I don't really fancy doing. Did the packet taste ok?

yellowdinosauragain · 09/07/2014 21:22

It tasted absolutely fine. I'd make life easier and go for the packet. Plus it's more impressive to cook from mix rather than warming up on the Cobb I reckon #SmugCobbShowOff

It's definitely all about showing off this weekend. I have bought packet mix, but will add some extra chocolate and maybe cherries or something so it's a bit more impressive.

Sounds like a great plan! Have fun
