Gelert Satellite 6 - Is it MASSIVE?

I have three children and a reluctant DH.

Do you think it's too big for us?

Trying to find somewhere we can go and see tents "up" before buying.

We've just bought the Alaska 8 which I think is simailar. It's huge and I'm panicking that it'll be too big for the pitch in France. In DH's words after going to his dad's to practise putting up (our garden too small!) "You could park the car in it"

We saw ours up at a branch of Go outdoors ( can't do links tonight, too worried about packing and the size of the bloody tent!)

Just seen it's 7.5m long. Excessive for a first tent, me thinks!

Off to look at your alaska...

We had to return our Alaska8 as it was faulty. We found it to be very flimsy, and I don't think I'd use Gelert again. We exchanged it for a Vango Diablo 600 {http://www.outdoorfocus.co.uk/tall_fibreglass_steel_tents/Vango/Diablo/Vango_Diablo600_info.htm}

, which is fab in comparisson (much better quality)

Also looking at the Tahoma 6 and the Cadiz 5+2.

God, this is complicated!

...or the Alaska 6?

Need to get to bed!

Hi

We looked at the Satellite but were told it's not so stable, and it is very big. We have three kids and and two of us also, the Tahoma suits us to a tee for the big breaks, looking for something smaller for weekends but then we're campinga ddicts and go five times a year.

If you want to see the Tahoma up, CAT me and I'll send you a few pics

Thanks Peachy.

It's so hard making a decision on a tent, isn't it!?

Eventually went for the Campus Yale. Didn't want to go too mad!

Initially we'll only go for weekends, but I'd like to do a week or two next Summer.

Do you think it would be too cold to camp late Sept in Scotland?

Too cold late Sep in Scotland?

Urm yes probably! gets well nippy at night anything other than mid season, and if you don't want the family put off...

Our season ends with the weekend before they go back to school, which is one of the Devon carnivals- we take them then pack down for winter

Gillian76 · 31/07/2006 19:26

Hoping to do a weekend or two this year. If we get the tent this week I'd like to try a night or two next Monday or Tuesday. Is it feasible to get a pitch at the last minute and just for 1 night?

I seem to remember camping with the Guides in September. Mind you, our children are only 6,5 and 3!

exactly the same ages as mine and they don't feel the cold much, but I do.

You can get last minute pitches. If that's your thing try the camping and caravanning club. Where do you live (is it Scotland)- we can probably recomme3nd some good sites

Gillian76 · 31/07/2006 19:48

About 15 miles out of Glasgow in the direction of Loch Lomond.
