are they are very excited! Friends have been and said it's FAB. Pay once to go into the zoo and then unlimited free entry. Pitch where you like if you don't want a hook up. £7.75 per night + £1.50 per person.

Roll on August!

I live about 1/2hr from Banham Zoo - you will have a good time

KBear · 21/07/2006 14:46

Oh thanks for that! Are you lost though, with a name like MacSporran???

LOL - blame it on my dh! His job was moved to Norfolk. (I was Fimbo but decided to change)

MamaG · 21/07/2006 17:23

sounds great KBear, you will have a great time no doubt - are you going in a tent?

KBear · 21/07/2006 23:36

Yeah, we bought a tent last year and all the trimmings so now we're all set! Cannot WAIT.

Also have a girls weekend camping planned for later in the summer, me and my bestest mates and the kids - no DHs! Bliss

I'm very of you. I can't wait to start, but prob going to be next summer when DS is 3 - don't think I could cope just yet

KBear · 22/07/2006 11:24

We'll have a mini-meet up next year then - half way between us!

MamaG · 22/07/2006 11:25
  • a very mini-meet up. We must start a thread in the Meet-Ups section

"Meet-up - only KBear & MamaG"

KBear · 22/07/2006 11:50

I don't like crowds!! PSML!! The kids will each have a playmate, we can kickback with a glass of something chilled, the BBQ sizzling nicely and watch the sky go by!

We go to Gorleston beach (just south of Great Yarmouth) quite a lot - mainly 'cos the Il's live there though! It's probably the quickest beach to get to from here, straight down the A134. It's a beautiful beach, was in the Guardian guide to family days out last week as one of the best swimming beaches in the country. It's not brash and over developed like Yarmouth, just a few car parks and one small beach cafe with huge queues!

We also go to Bressingham steam museum quite a lot but I think it's quite expensive for what it is, about £12 per adult and I'd say you could spend about 4 hours max there.

Diss (where I live) is pretty, lots of quirky independent shops, lovely big park based around a Mere, Gypsey horses to feed apples to on the common, small Farmer's market 2nd Saturday of the month, ordinary market every Friday.

Wortham Ling is quite nice for walks and picnics, no facilities like toilets or ice cream vans though.

The Eye Show is on August Bank Holiday if you're here then. Not an optometerist convention as I first thought when i moved here, but a County Show in the town of Eye. It's quite a big one and usually has lots to do.

I'm sure I'll think of lots of other things as well! Feel free to CAT me if you want directions/details etc.

KBear · 24/07/2006 12:32

Prof - thanks! LOL at Eye Show!

I live in the same town as Prof Yaffle and don't have much more to add.
We go to Knettishall Heath a lot (on the road between Diss and Thetford) for walks and is gorgeous there. £1 to park in the carpark. Head left from the carpark for the best walks. They have a small play area with swings by the loos. Thetford Forest also nice as well - try High Lodge.
We usually go to Aldeburgh on the Suffolk coast for the beach (about an hours drive). Pebbles but great shops and excellent chips. If you fancy the North Norfolk coast I highly recommend Holkham but get there early for a good car park space.

throckenholt · 24/07/2006 12:58

I second Knettishall Heath - nice place for a walk
and High Lodge in Thetford Forest (other side of Thetford from Banham) - would be good for that age group too (£5 to park the car - the rest is free). and Wortham Ling is one of my favourite places

Trip to Norwich maybe - cathedral, castle, puppet theatre etc

Maybe a trip to Cambridge. And for a longer drive Southwold is a good place - boats in the harbour at one end, and the pier at the other, and a sandy beach.

There is a swimming pool at Diss (and Wymondham) as well.

KBear · 24/07/2006 13:00

thanks everyone - it's not an area I know at all so all the tips about car parks and walks are great!

OP posts:
cupcakes · 24/07/2006 13:05

I have heard that the beach at Southwold is closed at the moment whilst they build sea defences - apparently the local shops are in uproar that they waited till the holidays to do it.

cupcakes · 24/07/2006 13:10

If you're heading north of Norwich you should definitely go to the Dinosaur Park here . Great play area, nice walk with dinosaurs to hunt (they get a book to fill in with stamps along the way) and a small but nice petting farm at the end. My ds (6) loves it.

cupcakes · 24/07/2006 13:11

also, you could head down to Ipswich and go to Jimmy's Farm (him off the telly).
Essex Pig Company

Ooh, thought of another one. Billingford Mill, again on the A134 out of Diss. Opening times here
