Ok we still haven't even brought a tent yet (friends may be giving us their old one), and can't quite decide if camping is for us or not so I thought I'd ask some questions.

If we went, it would be me, dp and 3 kids aged 8, 6 and 3, would they enjoy it do you reckon ?

Do you always have to book in advance or can you just turn up and hope there is a place ?

Would we need electric hook up ?? Can't think what we'd need electric for.

My main concern is food. Whenever we go away in a caravn or whatever, we cook alot as we can't afford to eat out much. I'm worried that we'll ebd up spending a fortune on eating out/takeaways etc.

Half of me thinks we might really like it, as we could go off whenever we please, but the other half thinks what the hell are you even considering it for LOL.

Mind you if we don't go camping we won't go away at all.

Hiya we do basic camping and have done since dss was little. No electic. 1 ring gas cooker. Small tents etc (no car). the kids will love it!!!

For meals we do basic one pot meals. Mince and totties/spag/pasta bol (chuck spag into mince to cook), risotto, sausages and beans (fry saus add beans)and other stuff like that. Everything tastes great when you are outdoor anyway. We use diposable bbqs quite a bit too and they are great. Lunch is always some simple picnic type thing and breakfast is rashers or sausages or cereal. Lots of fruit too.

I'd book for large popular campsites esp Bank holiday w/e but lots of places you can turn up on the off chance esp during the week

They would LOVE it! Basic campsite with loads of space to charge around or 'corporate' one with play ares/cllubs - loads to do. Near beach - even better!

During the summer hols I would phone and book in advance...nothing worse than turning up to a full campsite and then doing stressed driving round and round looking for a valid alternative that isn't also full!!

We have one a elec hook up, for lights and a fridge. But you can use battery lights/torches and a cool box...or a gas powered fridge...

You can get camping stoves so you can cook in/next to the tent. we also take a bbq ( not a disposabel one, they burn the grass).

Thanks for the replies.

It looks as though we may have to spend this year buying the gear and next year camping LOL.

We're going to make a list of what we'd need and see if it's do able at the mo.

We have just been camping with my sister & family & my ds who is 3.10 loved it he thought it was fantastic, we are now buying all the gear & going to go of camping in august/sept for a week, we have ds & dd who is 6 months & even dd enjoyed it she loved just sitting in the door way of the tent in her bumbo watching everything.

It is well worth it & if you get a gas cooker to ook on you can cook some food, just simple things are easiest, like scrabbled egg on toast, spag bowl, sausages etc etc.

I have 2 ready beds i am going to be selling if interested as we have been given a deluxe blow up bed & some top of the range sleeping bags.
