Lucycampcat - you wanted to know how the site in Buxton was

Lime Tree Park, Buxton It was lovely! You wouldn't have known you were only a bit out of Buxton - proper countryside, with cows and bunnies. We were on the field with EHUs which was great - generous pitches, and quite a long walk from the children's playground (always good news). The toilet block is fantastic - 3 showers per gender, so no queueing and the shower cubicles are really well designed so you have a dry bit behind a partition wall - no wet clothes. Toilets were immaculate, and there are two cubicles with sinks and mirrors so you can do your make-up without an audience. There is also a family room with a big walk in shower, toilet and sink and a separate room for baby changing. Only two washing up sinks, so there was a wait sometimes - and the water was incredibly hot, so much so that you couldn't hold the hot tap down (they were those that you have to press) with your hand.

The other field (without EHUs) looked a bit more cramped - with tents pitched closer together, and their shower/toilet block looked older - though, to be fair, I didn't go inside. That field was next to the children's play area - which was OK, not wildly exciting: couple of slides, climbing frame type thing, swings and a seesaw.

No bar or club house, which for me is a plus, as you don't get the drunken eejits tripping over your guy lines at 11.30 then. A small shop - newspapers and basic groceries, and camping spares. You can get gas refills too. There's also a launderette and a small games room with a snooker table (didn't go in there).

Everyone quietened down at a reasonable time - about 11 but the second night there was maintenance all night on the train track that runs alongside the site. That wouldn't be a regular occurence, I hope, but I was glad of my ear plugs. The reviews on UKCampsite say the site can be noisy with planes/trains/traffic though (apart from the track maintenance) I didn't notice any noise (our field was further from the road than the other one though).

Don't listen to the woman in the shop who tells you it's a 20 minute walk to Buxton - she must be a power walker as it took us an hour and a half and dh had to carry ds2 all the way back as he was too hot and too tired.

The only thing that made me grumpy all weekend were a few families who seemed to think the "dogs on a lead at all times" rule couldn't possibly mean their beloved pooches and let them wander all over. One dog cr@pped on the grass outside another tent and because it wasn't on a lead and its owners hadn't seen it they didn't clear it up . It wasn't my tent - I would have told them!

So, for a very convenient weekend away - yes, I'd definitely recommend it: we'll be going again.

oooo a thread with my name on it!!

Many thanks for that marthamoo, it sounds just right for a weekend, I like the sound of the toilet block and the park bit would be great for our two, not so sure about the hike into Buxton - definately a car jobby!

More to the point - how was The Monty?

marthamoo · 19/07/2006 19:09

The Monty? It's just divine, darling

We went with friends - Troutpout (who is an occasional MN poster) and her family. She bought a Monty at Blacks a few days after I got mine...so we pitched them next to each other. When the kids were all in bed we just sat there, drinking wine, and sighing contendedly at the perfection that is the Montana 6.

Dh broke mine though! He fell off his airbed and crashed into the inner bedroom wall and broke one of the ties that suspends the bedroom pod from the outer tent. It made a teeny hole in the bedroom pod fabric. Luckily nothing integral or I might be contemplating divorce. I've packed a needle and thread in my camping box for next time...

Definately grounds for divorce!

So where to next? the world's your oyster now you've got The Monty!

marthamoo · 19/07/2006 19:15

Sadly, I think that might be it - unless the weather is OK after the children (children - ds2 starts school in September ) go back to school. Dh has got 3 weeks off in August but that is absolutely all the time he can have - and we're going to the Lakes for a week (cottage) and then to see "GrandmaandGrandadinWales" and the rest of dh's family - including my newest nephew, for the rest of his time off.

I too recently bought a monty and think it's fab although on the 2nd one already as the first one there was a manufacturing defect they had sewn the groundsheet half way up the tent behind the bedroom pods!! like you there is a group of 3 families all of us have the monty!!

marthamoo · 19/07/2006 21:22

I do really love it

oh no Janbo!

mmm seems like these Monties are getting a bit common

marthamoo · 19/07/2006 22:56

Someone said that on UKCampsite - that they are now the Mondeos of the tent world - and then all the Monty owners started calling them Mondies instead...

(non tent people will not find that amusing in the slightest - it's like train spotter jokes)

Janbo25 · 20/07/2006 20:25

DOn't blame all of these Mondies!! owners after all you would be hard struck to find a better tent i believe!!

Troutpout · 20/07/2006 21:01

ooh it's turned into a Mondy fan thread.
i love my Mondy

LucyCampCat · 21/07/2006 11:39

I know you all love your Mondies!
