Used to go every year when we were kids and have fab memories of it. Couldn't tell you anymore than that really as was only little but I do remember a place by the sea and the green that did ice cream in a cone with a large dollop of clotted cream on top yummy!

Am sure you'll have a lovely time.

We used to go every year. Dawlish itself is a nice walk along the seafront- PLEASE check the tide times for the journey back- and teignmouth is also nice and a short drive / bus journey away. You can also take boat trips from the area and go to various places along the coastline which is what we always did, being car-less.

All I can now think is clotted cream on ice cream, clotted cream on ie cream, clotted cream on ice cream!!!

ARGHHHHHH!

Clotted cream on ice cream is a local speciality! I love living i Devon, we have a clotted cream fridge in teh supermnarket here, like other places have a fridge full of butters.
The nature reserve at teh warren is nice worth an explore, the beach is OK if a bit crowded at teh life guarded end. Train trips will take you to Exeter or Torbay. Powderham Castle is nearby if you like stately homes and gardens. At Dawlish Warren is various fun fairish stuff- dodgems, go-karts etc.
BIT futher away for days out, try Bicton Gardens if you have under 10s as teh play grounds are brilliant. Creally is good for 4-13s as a small theme park. Exeter has good free guided walks every day , worth doing one if your in town for a day. Also in Exeter bike and canoe hire is availble atteh quay on the river with about 7 miles of traffic free cycleing and easy paddling along the Exeter ship canal to 2 good pubs on the canal side (double locks and Turf, both with playgrounds). Sidmouth Donkey Sanctury is free but welcomes donations. On Dartmoor the miniture pony centre is a nice day out, lots of small animals and big play grounds , also has a rather nice butterfly garden I helped create.
If your taking bikes or just active small people check out Haldon Forest- bike and walking trails for all ages. Pay and display parking but free to use trails, has toilets at the car park and 2 big play grounds.
Gone ona bit- Iknow, but its great patch of the world and there loads to keep a family ocupied for a week down here. We live in Exeter and do lots of day trips.
