can anyone recommend a single burner gas canister style cooker?
we got a cheapy from halfords, have used it this weekend and already the gadget for holding the canister in is bust (so you have to wedge the canister in place...v safe)
but it is liberating not to lug around a big gas cylinder.

We have this one .

Very sturdy, high heat so fast, aerosol can style gas so very light. Has a safety cut out that means it will not light if incorrectly set up.

Can't find a picture but do you know the ones with a 'lying down' thin canister, ie., not the stubby blue CalorGaz ones? They're single burner. Anyway I noticed them today in Woolies half price - £14.99 iirc.

The cooker is rectangular, do you know the kind I mean? It's annoying me that I can't find a picture

marthamoo · 09/07/2006 20:14

Ha! Very similar to the one SG just posted!

marthamoo · 09/07/2006 20:15

Actually that one's only £12.99 but I guess you'd have P&P as well.

SaintGeorge · 09/07/2006 20:16

They are all over. I have seen them from about £9.99 in sales upto £19.99.

I think they do a two-burner version now too.

marthamoo · 09/07/2006 20:23

I may have to buy one. We have a CampingGaz double ring with a grill and we're going camping next weekend...but we realised today that our gas cylinder is locked in my parents' garage...and they're in Whitby for the next 10 days. Ah well. Or we could just eat lots of salad-y type meals. Camping with no fry ups, though....nah

Here you go! good old Go Outdoors!

Where are you off to next weekend martha?

marthamoo · 09/07/2006 20:33

We're going to Lime Tree Park, in Buxton - it was really hard finding anywhere that wasn't booked up. Had to be near as we'll have to go after school on Friday (actually, it's so near I could nip home and cook on my cooker, just about )

roisin · 09/07/2006 20:42

We have the same one as StG, and it's brill. Cooks everything very fast, and feels quite sturdy and stable.

roisin · 09/07/2006 20:43

Hey Marthamoo, where are you from? Dh was brought up in Chapel-en-le-Frith.

marthamoo · 09/07/2006 20:46

I'm Mancunian, but we live in Macclesfield now.

LucyCampCat · 09/07/2006 20:48

I'll be interested to hear what it's like martha, I've just been looking at the reviews on ukcamping and wondering whether it would feel as though we were actully away for the weekend, just being in Buxton!

We've just been to Anglesey for the weekend, it was sooooo windy putting the tent up and some old git sat on his arse drinking a cup of coffee watching dh and I struggle - cheers mate, grrrr, hop his tent blew away!

marthamoo · 09/07/2006 20:49

I'll let you know when we get back, lucy - I hope it's not too noisy, it's quite big.

hovely · 09/07/2006 21:53

That's the ones!
thank you SG and LCC
the one we got from Halfords is just that style, but i think the difference may be in the quality of the moving parts, ie the bit at the end of the canister which locks it into place.

also fancied
this one

My mum just bought the Gelert one for £9.99 in Robert Dyas (we brewed up today out on our picnic)!

SaintGeorge · 09/07/2006 22:02

Hmmm, I prefer the Gelert one because of the case.

Take it back to Halfords. They might exchange it.

hovely · 09/07/2006 22:05

yes, I will take it back, but will investigate others first before deciding whether to go for refund or replacement.
all over the campsite there were people tinkering with similar cookers, they seem to be a new craze.

Sorry not Gelert, Hi-Gear but practically the same. I'll try to do a link.
