we can bring - drinks with ice, the ability to go camping from march to sept (and beyond), comfy beds, warmth, a toilet and sinks and many other things (even .... whispers... a tv) Smile

not like them tenters! Wink

I love our caravan, trying to work out where to go in a weekend or two if weather stays okay

we have a tourer, but we don't tour with it.

Just had a lovely, lazy weekend there - it's the only time I ever get to read the whole of the sunday paper!

We have recently upgraded from our 2-berth Gloria (getting on, but still a touch of glamour) to sensible 5-berth Valerie. She has a lovely sliding door that we can locktuck DS into hus own little capsule of an evening

How do you choose where to go? That's the bit that's perplexing me. I went to visit some sites in coastal Essex over summer and they weren't very naice! Is there such a thing as ver posh caravan sites or am I just too far up myself?

Hmm. some sites are possibly nicer than others. I have only ever stayed on two - but have been for a look around some others.

We used to have ours here bainland but then they stopped taking tourers. It was quite nice - lovely(ish) shower blocks and toilets. Bar, bistro, pool etc. But I guess due to competition in the area, and their price increases(!) tourer and tents weren't making enough money. So we had to move as we have do 'store and stay' we don't tow our 'van, keep it on site.

Now at a new site near York. much smaller, and no bar, pool or anything, but it is much closer to home so we are able to visit more frequently.

So when you get there, what do you do if there are no facilities on site?

I mainly use the UK campsite website, put in the search criteria and see what it comes up with, but make sure you read the reviews, visit the campsites own website and keep your fingers crossed.

If you want to guarantee good quality facilities then caravan club sites are the ones to go for. However they are very prescriptive about things such as how to park the caravan and have the awning at a certain angle etc. Rules rule! We tend to use caravan club cl sites as they're always decent but much cheaper.
We talked about selling ours but dcs have said to sell it but then get a newer one!
