Just returned from a weeks camping - got a bit wet but had great fun. We think this is the last season for our tent - had it for ten years so a pretty good run. So we got into a discussion about what we'd like in a new tent. We normally have our tent and then sort of attach an open gazebo on the side to cook in. I said it would lovely to get a new tent with a huge open porch so we don't have to bring the extra gazebo/day tent and we can cook in the rain. DH over reacted Hmm and I got a lecture about cooking in a tent and how dangerous it is which I know and would never put us in danger. BUT seriously is there no other way to cook safely in the rain than having to bring an extra shelter? Are there tents that have large open porches that you can cook in safely?

How more dangerous can cooking in tent veranda be from cooking in tent extension? If BBQ then can see point as would always use a distance from any tent what with CM poisoning, but if using gas.....

ah ok have we misunderstood all the warnings then? I thought it was any cooking (including gas) in an enclosed porch/tent could potentially cause cm poisoning hence why the separate gazebo. Confused So I guess its just fire risk really?

I don't think cooking gas is lethal in terms of odour but obviously fire risk is there...but there is same risk cooking in caravans and houses too. We have an open ended awning that I mostly cook in...but more to keep the smell out if bedrooms than potential for fire.

Loads of tents now have porches. You can cook in them, especially if they don't have doors/you don't close the door. It's no more dangerous than cooking in a daytent. Good luck with deciding what new tent you want. Smile. There are loads to choose from. I think you'll be overwhelmed with choice.
