Teepee fail

I'm off to camp bestival at the weekend with my lovely new tent. Unfortunately we discovered in the storm on Saturday while taking her on her maiden voyage that the seams around the toggles on the windows weren't done correctly so they leaked.

I tried to get Millets to swap it or do a refund but they won't without sending it off for testing first. It would take 14-90 days to resolve that way.

I've got some outbound seam sealer and if all us fails some duct tape to put on the only leaks I could find.

Has anyone done similar before and did it work? It's this or I'm going to have to tent shopping tomorrow with whatever I can scrape from behind the sofa!

Bugger trout, not good. No words of advice, but really hope you can get sorted.

Do any friends have a tent that you could borrow?

Tiredtrout · 30/07/2013 22:14

The other tent is a 3 man which I normally use for festivals but it was snug last year with just me and the older two. None of my friends really do camping, the weather is looking ok ish and the latest site pics are looking good. How's your packing

Packing ok thanks. Mammoth task though, as we're driving straight to France. Most stuff is organised, now to get it into the car

Plan to do it tomorrow, whilst the small one sleeps. Fingers crossed for a decent nap.

Ggrr re the teepee. Flipping typical isn't it? Another possibility is to maybe see if you can collect something from gumtree if you're worried that your backup is too small?

I'm lying in bed. Can't sleep. Mentally packing the car...

Is it the flowery one? There was an article in the guardian about how crap firstly the tent was but secondly their customer service is.

The lady had erected the tent, once. The pole failed they wouldn't swop it until the guardian got involved.

Take it back get a full refund and stay away from Millets poor quality and shitty experience. I would be taking a watering can and erecting said tent in the store to demonstrate to all Staff and customers how shitty it was

I read the article while trying to get it swapped, the poles are fine, I've spent two days on to them trying to resolve it online, in their store and on the phone. They are not willing to accept it as a return until they've inspected it which they won't do in store, it has to be sent off, the time scale they gave to resolve it was 14-90 days which I just don't have!

Just back from camp bestival, our new pegs were great, the sealant we used on the seams coped with a couple of downpours.

The pole alas did not, unfortunately it decided to snap at one point and buckle at another after being up for only 10 hours, that makes a grand total of one night out of five nights camping where there hasn't been a problem with her. The point the pole sits in to hold the tent up has split around the stitches too
