Can't for the life of me find a thread about things to do when camping in Fontainbleu. We are hoping to go into Paris for the day with the kids on the train & someone mentioned a ticket that includes the Metro also. Anyone been recently with some ideas?! Thanks

The chateau at Fontainebleu itself looks lovely: www.musee-chateau-fontainebleau.fr/spip.php?lang=en and you could also head to Versailles which is definitely worth a day trip (although you might have to go in and out of Paris to get there on public transport if you don't have a car - not sure). Although if you have done Fontainebleu, another chateau might be a bit much for the kids.

When you are in Paris, a trip on a river boat is a nice way to see some of the city. And if the children get tired of sightseeing and need some theme park action, you can always head to Disneyland Paris or Playmobil funpark for younger ones.

We go to Fontainebleau a lot, but mostly for the bouldering circuits in the forest. There is a kids one near the large car park on the D409 to the west of the motorway, between Milly la Foret and Arbonne. White marked boulder problems for really little ones. ANywhere in the trois pignons area also lovely for walking.
The bookshop next to the market in Fontainebleau generally has a good selection of climbing guidebooks and maps. The small map of the forest has blue circuit walks marked on it - these are actually marked on the rocks, so great for kids to follow. They often weave in and out of the rocks. The one near barbizon is particularly good, and there's even a rock elephant en route. The bookshop and tabac in Milly also good for guides and maps.
Milly la foret is good for small shops and a market - one afternoon a week - might be Monday or Thursday - can't remember. The Cyclop - just north-west of Milly is also worth a walk into the forest to see - a massive sculpture of a cyclops - occasionally you can get inside - it's a gallery of weird stuff, but only from 8 or 10 yrs old.
We've never been, but there's an open air pool complex at Buthiers that looks like it might be nice. Planning to try it this summer.
The ticket you need to get to paris is a mobilis. If you get one for kids it also includes a discount for lots of museums etc. My other half and kids really enjoyed the large collection of bones in the natural history museum at Easter. Book tickets for the eiffel tower online in advance, for a named time and very little queueing.
Might post more as I think of it. Where are you camping? We love the pools at la musardiere in summer.
