What essentials do I need? I have a feeling I'm going to take loads of stuff we don't use! We have use of a kitchen via a families nearby house. So far I have got on my list

Nappies and changing bits
Changing mat
Mil is bringing a high chair and travel cot
Clothes
Bottles/Formula/Steriliser
Baby sleeping bags of various togs
Toys
Paddling Pool
Sun Cream
Spoons/Bowls etc
Sippy cup

Anything glaringly obvious that I have missed?

You've got the most important thing, the travel cot. Vital to keep crawlers from crawling into nettles etc while you're looking for something very important not currently on your list, which is wine, corkscrew, and chunky plastic glasses to pour it into.

pictish · 15/07/2013 15:58

WIPES!

DameDeepRedBetty · 15/07/2013 15:58

You also haven't got a torch, lantern, or anything else for seeing at night with. Can't find wine in the dark.... or change nappy/put more coverings on.

pictish · 15/07/2013 15:58

Leave out changing mat - take a towel - takes up less room.

Knew I was forgetting something Dame Grin
We are camping in a field nearby to an air show, so we have bought ds some ear defenders, as it will probably be very loud at times. The issue will be trying to get him to keep them on!

We have a lantern somewhere, which I need to dig out, thank you!

Camping in a field next to an air show??
Sounds noisy! Good luck with the ear defenders. Grin

pictish · 15/07/2013 16:04

Mind you - I've camped at many a festival near a booming sound system and slept like a log.

MummyPigsFatTummy · 15/07/2013 16:14

Tent? Grin

Have you got one of those pop up sun tents or at least a tarp for shade during the day? Vital with the current hot weather.

For night time, we have found a fleece sleep suit is great for keeping babies and toddlers warm as the temperature does drop significantly at night when you are sleeping outside.

DameDeepRedBetty · 15/07/2013 16:20

You going to Fairford? Took DTDs there when they were about that size. Shade is at a MASSIVE premium, you need parasol of some sort.

They didn't seem remotely bothered by the racket tbh, which included a Vulcan taking off and a Harrier doing its going backwards thing.

elQuintoConyo · 15/07/2013 16:48

Nothing to add, just seething with jealousy about the Vulcan and Harrier - my all time favourites and I'm nowhere near an airshow, sniff.

Oh, how about things for insect stings - mosquitos especially, remedy, prevention. DS has a band round his ankle with citrus and lemon, or something, in it, very homeopathic - and it actually WORKS!
Couple of familiar toys.
I'd second shade - plus suncream, hat etc.
Camera!
Soft shoes for walking (if dc is pulling up yet).

wibblyjelly · 15/07/2013 17:05

Yes Same we are off to Fairford, and camping in a nearby school field. We get to see all the planes, but not at £35 a ticket Grin
I've just been lent a pop up tent by a neighbor.

Out of curiosity, what do you dc's sleep in when camping, and how do you keep them warm? I can't use blankets with ds, as he is a right wriggler, so hoping gro bags will do the trick.
