Camping in UK in August, DD is 2.6 and unsure what to dress and put her in for night this year. LAst year she fitted in her grobags on a foam camping mat and fleece blanket so that was quite easy. This year do you think she need a proper kind of sleeping bag? she sleeps next to me. What does you r2 year old sleep in?

Hi flowerfairy. I can't answer your question but you might be able to answer mine! Im taking my just turned 1 son camping and have bought a ready bed. I have no idea if this will work or be a disaster as he turns around a lot in his sleep. When you went last year was your dd ok just on the mat? Did you go to bed at the same time? Im wondering if I should take a travel cot although id like to avoid that if possible. thanks and sorry to be of no use to use although have you considered a ready bed?

We used a travel cot for the first 2 years - it was quite handy as a play pen to contain DS when pitching the tent so he could watch! This year we have used a ready bed with a either a grobag or a onesie for warmth (the duvet bit of the ready bed is quite thin and DS tended to kick it off) and that's worked really well. Happy camping both!

We used to put DSs in a long travel cot with grobag and blankets until they were too big for it, then bought ready beds which are brilliant - air bed and sleeping bag in one.

We went camping in Norfolk in May (feckin' FREEZING it was too) so DSs (5 and 3) went to bed in vest, pyjamas, thick socks and a hoodie, then in ready beds and a big double duvet over the top of the pair of them. Sounds a bit much I know but they slept really well and weren't too hot.

Age 6 months to currently 2 dd has worn vest, babygro, tights, fleece all-in-one, grobag. She sleeps on a self-inflating mat in between DH (the tent heater) and I. I found she got colder on a ready bed; ice-cold little hands would come poking into my pyjamas.
ds2 went straight into an adult sleeping bag aged 2 because he saw ds1's and ours and thought he should have one too. The boys wear ordinary pyjamas, socks and fleece pyjamas (just occassionally it has been warm enough for them to only need the jumper bit).
I take woolly hats if it is going to be much below 10 at night.

We're taking the travel cot again this year (DD will be 2.7 when we go). In previous years I've 'insulated' by standing it on foam tiles, and put extra blankets over the cot mattress. Last year she had a toddler 'proper' sleeping bag, and wore a vest under a sleepsuit.
This year we'll be going for a similar approach. Next year I think it'll be one of those self-inflating mats or 'bed in a bag' things.
We always take spare blankets (or even old towels) to layer up if it gets cold.

Dc, aged 2.10, sleeps in pjs and then a vango child size sleeping bag. I take an extra blanket if its cold. Last year she also went in a fleece suit over her pjs. I have 3dc and I squidge them all onto 2 self inflating mattress'.

We camped last week. My 2.1 year old slept in pyjamas under a duvet, on a double SIM which she shared with dp (as I was sharing with the baby). We brought along some growbag-type sleeping bags for her in case but they weren't necessary. They were from John Lewis and go up to 36 months.

If you prefer to use a proper sleeping bag, then you get use an adult one and either sew or fold it to size, and it will grow with them.

ilovepicnmix We cut the foam mat in half and taped it at 2 ends so it's an extra thickness and it fits next to our doubleSIM, then I put the fleece blanket on top to insulate from cold floor. Nowhere for her to roll to really.

DS is 9 and has 2 junior size sleeping bags so may try that this time, as looking for a cheap option rather than buying something I will only use this year and possibly not again. Wasn't particularly cold last year so just had long sleeved vest and babygro and grobag and lots of fleecy blankets in case.

Thanks to all.
