I didn't think it was possible to be so comfy in a tent. It is a revelation!

Many thanks to the people on here who recommended them, worth every penny.

What sort do you have?

LittleEsme · 10/07/2013 22:31

Oooh which one do you have?
I'm looking for a double SIM, and I'm running out of time! I don't want another 2 weeks on an airbed!

hellymelly · 10/07/2013 22:34

What are SIMs?

LittleEsme · 10/07/2013 22:37

Self inflating mats.

hellymelly · 10/07/2013 23:10

Are they more comfy than an airbed? We have a bell tent that we haven't slept a single night in as the PVC fumes from the airbed (I think) and possibly the groundsheet made me wheezy and faint on our first night, we had to pack up and drive home. Sad. Am hoping the tent itself will have off-gassed a bit, but would like a non-PVC bed, and am stuck. Looking on amazon the SIMs did seem as though some were not PVC. Any makes good? Do they have a plastic smell?

We have a Vango 7.5cm double SIM which is soooo comfortable. Highly recommended.

We have the Vango 7.5cm double too. We paid less than this a couple of months ago, though, got it for.about £60. It is a wonderful thing!

Much comfier than an airbed, and warmer. I didn't notice a plastic smell at all.

How is it comfy? It looks very flat to me.

I ask seriously as need to buy a new camping mattress and I have a back that likes to ache if not in my comfy bed.

SalomeD · 11/07/2013 06:32

CostCo have 7.5cm SIMs for £27

It's also worth having a look in your local Aldi.

I got the last 2 in ours yesterday for my neighbour (think they had their camping stuff in about a month ago). Theirs cost £14 each

hellymelly · 11/07/2013 16:44

I think I will buy one then, as all seem to agree on the comfyness. Smile. They look very thin and I have a dodgy back, but they sound as though they would do the trick and mean we could get the tent out this Summer. I was mulling over getting the mattress off the bed and taking that...

Pancakeflipper · 11/07/2013 17:08

Which one are you buying ?
I am spoilt for choice now.

hellymelly · 11/07/2013 18:51

I might go for the vango, I also saw some on Amazon, a Gelert one sounded good.

Root99 · 11/07/2013 19:43

Are they similar to thermarests? Or better?

attheendoftheday · 11/07/2013 19:50

They are thinner than airbeds, but less rigid and less cold air to heat up.

I wouldn't have believed they are as comfy as they are before trying it. Quite big to transport, though.

Same thing as a thermarest, I think.

The vango 7.5 sim is my most prized camping possession. It was recommended here years ago and I ended up ordering it online cause nowhere had them in stock and I'm so glad I did. It is like sleeping on warm air! The difference between a sim and an air bed is vast. And they have a fabric type coating so don't smell or squeak and never deflate
