We are back from a wonderful weekend camping near at Chafford Park campsite in Kent. First use of our tealight chandelier - it was lovely and much admired. Thanks Shiraz Grin

Really wish we could have stayed for the week - not looking forward to work tomorrow Sad. And we have no more camping booked until Chilled in a Field festival at the beginning of August - a whole 4 weeks away!

Anyone else suffering camping withdrawal symptoms?

Yes, me. We usually camp at least twice a month during May - September but I haven't been for two weeks and won't be going for another two!! And all this lovely weather. Weeping. It's just not right. Darn kids and their social lives.

MummyPigsFatTummy · 07/07/2013 21:00

Oh hz Sad. Surely you could argue that regular camping is part of your work? So for professional reasons, you have to go regardless of other people's social commitments???

so glad you like it MPFT! We're just back from a weekend away too. Booked it at the end of the May half term, got SERIOUSLY lucky with the weather.

Was sad packing up today, not to mention v hot and sweaty!!

Tomorrow is the lovely task of sorting everything out and washing washing washing. At least it's nice and sunny so everything will be easy to dry.

Next trip is 25 July, day after kids break up for 3 nights, then 4 nights at home, then Camp Bestival, then straight to France for a fortnight! Woop whoop!

We have just got back from Forgewood. What a great weekend. It was very busy and a lot of large groups but we found a nice pitch and had friends join us on Saturday. The toilets and showers were kept really clean all weekend. Hats off to John, Kate and all the crew there. Got back in time for the final today so it was a win win weekend!

hillbilly · 07/07/2013 21:37

Well done on your chandeliers ladies! Out next trip is to Abbotstone Wood in 2 weeks. Hope the weather holds....

hillbilly · 07/07/2013 21:57

MPFT - we were just around the corner from you then! Tell me about Chafford Park - I have not heard of it before, but just googled it and it looks lovely.

I had a fab weekend in the scorching sunshine at boe rigg in Northumberland with my oldest son. campfires, sunshine and gininatin

MummyPigsFatTummy · 07/07/2013 23:48

yes it was lovely hillbilly. A big unmowed field with areas cut out for groups to camp in. There were some woods running along the bottom and a couple of rope swings for the children. Campfires allowed and wood sold and the owner and her assistant were lovely. Nice facilities too although they would have struggled if there had been a lot of people there, which there weren't.
The only problem was that possibly because of all the long grass there were a lot of mosquitos and other biting insects so we all got fairly well chewed. Didn't spoil it though and we will be going back definitely.

I love Forgewood too though. We were there in May and had a brilliant weekend.

MummyPig - yes, it would seem a fair argument. My own fault should have been more careful about booking out weekends overs summer. Usually I just book out several weekends to 'camping' and everything else can go jump! Chafford sounds good, might add that to my site. Did you notice any campervans there or is it strictly just tents?

MummyPigsFatTummy · 08/07/2013 12:25

Hi hz - I did see a couple of campervans there, yes. It reminded me of Forgewood in terms of what they were doing. The owner was keen to keep it quite small and not overcrowded, just as it is at the moment, but I think they are planning to make a website (they were taking photos when we were there). Personally, I am hoping it never gets into Cool Camping or we will never be able to go there with a group at the last minute which has been our problem with sites like Forgewood and St Ives Farm recently. The mozzies may keep people away though

I would say the only downside of Forgewood this time was that it was nearly all large groups in the top field and very few people had camped in the woods so it seemed busier than usual. Having said that we had a fabulous time. MBFT I agree about the Cool camping thing - it does make last minute camping difficult.

CoolStoryBro · 08/07/2013 12:45

Where can I get a tealight chandelier?!!!

I'm taking the kids camping today and am beyond excited.

shirazplease · 08/07/2013 13:00

I swear I don't get commission! chandelier

MummyPigsFatTummy · 08/07/2013 14:25

You should shiraz - we should send these threads to the White Company so they know where all their new orders are coming from!

Our one was the topic of conversation for the weekend. Everyone in the group we were with popped in to the tent to have a look and from general mirth at the start of the weekend at the thought of bringing a chandelier camping, most people were quite keen on the idea by the end. The children were the most charmed though - DD (3) kept bringing the other toddlers in to admire it and letting them play with the battery tea lights. It was very sweet.

How sweet MPFT!

People do tend to scoff at first, but when they see it up, they're eating their words!
