Smaller campsites with activities for children?

Can anyone recommend any smaller campsites in England or Wales with activities (arts and crafts/nature type things) for children? DS loves anything like that but it's not easy to find without going for bigger campsites and the horror of kid's discos and evening entertainment.

We've stayed at Greenacres in Somerset which had a bell tent where kids could go to make things like willow lanterns and that was lovely.

I see that some of the Camping in the Forest sites (Hollands Wood, Christchurch) have Young Explorers activities - has anyone tried these?

forge wood near tunbridge wells is a lovely campsite. you can camp in the woods and build dens etc and they also do a forest school on saturdays, and other bush craft, art and craft type stuff. I cant link to website on phone but you can Google it. some lovely walks nearby too.

Thanks jobnockey. The forest school does look good. I was wondering how noisy it gets there with big groups and campfires. I do love my sleep.

Happyhorse, if you do head to Forgewood, you should be fine. It can be noisy during the evenings but quietens down by 11pm or so ime.

Take earplugs anyway though. Last time we were there we were pitched next to a man with such a loud snore I thought he had crawled into bed next to us. Not really Forgewood's fault though. And I would second everything jobnockey says. It's a great site.

Some of the sites on farms have farm-related activities and some sites that allow campfires offer bushcraft course - I think Bedgebury does, as well as Forgewood? I remember seeing others, too, but would have to search them all. Maybe posters on this site can advise? Bushcraft website

What about starry skies?

Just go somewhere with a small stream and ropeswings and he will be entertained for hours! wowo, burnbake, thistledown farm, wookey farm, get yourself something like 'The Stick Book' and you can come up with a few wild activities to keep him busy no problem!

South penquite farm?

South Penquite looks great and I've also got my eye on a site with a lovely little stream. I'll check out the stick book :)

You can't beat a stream to keep children entertained! Take some string and make a mini raft with small sticks, don't forget to tie a long piece of string on as a 'handle' - hours of fun!

South Penquite is lovely. Just don't make our mistake and camp at the top of the top field for the views. Bloody windy!

Ha, Hopefully! With you there, that's exactly what we did. Always sucked in by views. South Penquite is lovely but I would sound a note of caution about camping high on Bodmin, it does tent to attract 'weather'. Fine for a few days but I wouldn't spend a week there, too risky!
