Warm lights - do they exist?!

I don't mean lights that give off heat but all lamps that seem to be sold now are LED and they give off a really cold light, I know you can get gas lights that have a lovely warm glow to them but I don't want to use one of them in the tent.

So is there something anyone can recommend?

I know exactly what you mean but don't know of a solution. The led light is very unflattering on my ageing skin hard.

Gas lights do give off a lovely light once you get past the fear factor, also adjustable so you can have it nicely dimmed for settling the kids to sleep.

If we're using EHU we take our little Ikea bedside lamp like this, small so easy to pack, only downside is it's made of glass so I worry it will get broken, am on the lookout for a plastic version to keep just for camping.

That's a pretty light but we never do ehu camping so wouldn't work anyway. I do love the gas lights but won't risk it I'm afraid, the ground is never that even to have it on the floor and we don't take a table!

Guess I'll just have to keep looking Sad

Hi there, I've been lurking on here for months picking up tips before our first family camping adventure this summer. I also have a peek in on the ukcampsite forums sometimes and found this fab tip (hope the link works ok!)

I got some lighting gel from ebay and it works brilliantly

Pimpf · 03/06/2013 18:59

That is bloody brilliant! I love it and will be trying it out!

Why lighting manufacturers haven't thought of this I don't know.

Thank you thank you thank you!

Genius! And a cast iron excuse to buy some quality street Grin

I got a pair of LED lightbulb ones from Argos, wasn't expecting much but they were very bright and just like a warm lightbulb at home, just what we wanted.

I use a standard Coleman led lantern with a sheer orange silk scarf draped over to soften the light, as my main light. I also use around ten of these battery powered mini lights from ikea, in yellow and red. They weigh nothing, and are tiny enough to dot around the tent, giving off a lovely warm light.

We use this lamp which isn't as "blue" as the asda leds we used to have, I have thought about buying some lighting gel but haven't got round to it yet. www.amazon.co.uk/Ring-Cyba-Lite-Vega-Led-Lantern/dp/B002FW3TF4/ref=pd_cp_diy_0?tag=vig-21340-21
