Anyone know of a good campsite in Dorset?

I'm after recommendations for a good campsite in Dorset. I went to one about 8 years ago which was near-ish Lulworth Cove and it was near a smugglers pub which was lovely, but I can't remember for the life of me what it was called.

It doesn't have to be that one, but somewhere child-friendly not to far from the sea is what I'm after.
TIA

Have you tried Toms Field? Never been myself but both SILs and their families have absolutely loved it and return year after year. Happy camping!

Stayed on one right next to Monkey World. Lovely site with horse and llamas, and a bit of a wood for the children to explore (just enough for a bit of independence w/o going too far).

Good list here. I have stayed in a caravan at Eype House site, lovely location, amenities clean, friendly site owners. I have used the pool at Freshwater Beach Holiday Park, it is lovely, but must be very busy in peak season. The Durdle door campsite was good when I was a child, they recently had a cliff fall there though so not sure how accessible the beach is. Lyme Regis beach has imported sand good for building sand castles and no cliff fall issues. Charmouth beach is nice too.

Is the one you're thinking of at Osmington Bay OP? There's a cracking smugglers pub near there.

Freshwater Beach Holiday Park is lovely. We have been going at least twice a year for about 3 yrs now with our daughter(now 14) and son who has just turned 11.They always make friends and the staff put a lot of hard work into doing fun things with the kids. They have a donkey derby in the Summer, 2 pools, the evening entertainment is good and they always have some kind of sporting activities going on.Westbay is only down the road and is excellant for crabbing, it's a firm favourite with both of mine.I love Dorset, the beaches are stunning.

Thank you for all of the suggestions. DH and I will go through them later to see which fits the bill :)

We're off to buy our new tent on Monday so things are getting set for camping this year!

You're thinking of Durdle Door campsite just along from Lulworth Cove. Has got a bit pricier in recent years, thanks to the money grabbing estate that owns it and half of Dorset. Still a lovely site though.

Eweleaze?

levithecat · 25/05/2013 21:56

Second eweleaze, but I think it's already fully booked this year.

levithecat · 25/05/2013 21:58

I lied! Not full at all booking

I stayed at campsite in Wyke Regis last week - it was lovely. I'm not sure about child-friendly, but there were lovely views of Chesil Beach.

Oh, and lots of animals to look at - chickens, ponies, alpacas...

Don't know the one near Lulworth but we love:

Woody Hyde between Corfe Castle & Swanage. On the steam trainline.

Hook Farm - Lyme Regis. A beautiful walk from the campsite to town along the river.

We live in Dorset but often camp here too!

Maybe too late now - but I think you might be thinking of Osmington Mills, which is just next to Ringstead Bay - Smugglers Inn is the pub. Personally I haven't camped there for many years, I only really remember the Holiday Park next door which just isn't really my 'thing'.
I can second the Hook Farm recommendation though - just got back from a weekend there (third visit), it was lovely!
