Camping Gas for cooker

Bought the Lidl 2 burner today (as well as tent) so we have made a start! Now humour me please all you 'pro's' but do you drive to campsite with a cylinder of gas in the car or ... buy it somewhere on site?

Sorry if that is a greener than green question!

we buy take one, then swap on site if we run out. You have to bring it home again anyway, so you'll have to take it in the car next time... so you might as well buy it where it's cheapest and lug it there this once.

but is it safe to carry in the car?

We carry ours in the car every year, we have a 4.5kg butane gas bottle. DH gets it topped up at the local calor gas dealer before we go.

Once you have the bottle, it's about £11 or £12 to refill.

We've never run out of gas on a camping trip yet, DH went camping for the whole of August last year without having to top up, at least 2 lots of kettle boiling, cooked breakfast and evening meal everyday.

WE carry it in the car (the boot not the roof pod, it is very heavy)....and it fits inside the bucket with a lid!

they are safe to carry in the car - it's only if you're carrying industrial quantities you start needing to think about safety stickers etc.

Our unit comes with a case that has a pod for the cylinder, so must be OK to carry!
