Would you camp at a site that floods?

I'm looking up somewhere for a family holiday and have come across two lovely sounding campsites, both with rivers running by them (one in the Scottish Borders and one in Northumberland).

It sounds like kids love to paddle in the rivers, but both have reviews (on UKcampsite) from occasions when there were flash floods.

They sound like really ace campsites that the DSs would love, but this is really putting me off.

I'd be put off too. Without knowing the local geography, it's hard to tell when you arrive which bits are in danger of flooding.

And with riverside sites, chances are the flattest bits for the tent are also the bits nearest the river.

Yes, I think the tent areas are by the rivers.

Now that I've read those reviews, I think I would just end up worrying if it rained loads, even if it wasn't flashy sort of weather.

We stayed in a campsite in Porlock in north Devon years ago, and I was kept up all night thinking - that's an awful lot of rain falling, I can hear the river from here, Lynmouth's just down the coast, could happen here, tonight. Didn't sleep much.
