Any decent campsites within an hour/ 2 hour drive from Calais

Sorry as I am sure that this has been asked before, but it is Sunday morning and I am hungover!

Oh, hello everyone - it's been a while since I have been on here. Hope that everyone had a great end to camping last year.

Anyway, but to the subject. DP hasn't driven in forrin before, so I don't want to freak him out with a 9 hour drive after we get out of the tunnel. Can anyone recommend any lovely sites that would be good for about 8 nights not too far?

Btw... We did holland last year, a fab place called Bekse Bergen. Loads to do (my DCs were 5,3,1 but would be fab for any age). Took about 3 hours (easy driving) from Calais.

That's not too bad musttidy will have a wee look. DS is 5, so a bit of stuff to do is important - do the kids get together and play there?

Did you stay in a lodge thing? Coz I think I would like to stay in the tent (maybe I am crazy!)

We had a caravan - through eurocamps but there was loads of different types of accommodation through other companies. Lots of pitches. Eurocamps do a safari tent that looks great but not cheap, although cheaper than a Caravan. There is a fabulous zoo and a kids paradise called Speeland which has all manner of horrors delights for the kids. Pools reasonable too. Can swim in the lake. Doesn't feel too busy. Bit like centreparcs but without the paying extra for everything. It really was fab.
There are kids clubs but ted to be in Dutch - the morning activity was fine (craft and dancing mainly) didn't use the rest if the time as plenty of other things to do. I have done a mumsnet review in travel if you want to have a look.
One thing I should mention was the mosquitoes - kids got bitten to buggery before I realised. You must take stuff to protect them.

Beekse Bergen is great - went in a safari tent last Easter and going in a caravan in May this year. Definitely recommend it for primary age children.

Also, well within two hours of Calais is the Baie de Somme. We had a lovely time there at a campsite called Le Clos Cacheleux - huge pitches, quiet countryside location, all facilities (pool, shop, bar, kids club in Jul/Aug) at the sister site, Val de Trie, 5 mins down the drive. Very picturesque seaside towns at St Valery and Le Crotoy and big sandy beaches . Very different too Beekse Bergen but worth a visit for a couple of days.

Me too - need to keep it cheap this year. Looked into uk but its so expensive! Let me know if you come up with anything wonderful!

same area as cheerup mentioned we stayed here for first trip in france - pool was a bit nippy at whitsun! but good site lovely and clean and having the bar was great and St Valery really nice town- they also took camping cheques so v good value

We're staying at Domaine de Drancourt in the summer, good to hear it's a nice site :)

3rd when did you go to domaine de drancourt, as the recent reviews on uk campsite have been a bit rubbish?
