Our Coleman extreme keeps stuff cool for several days - chill before use and rotate ice packs if possible.

You can charge a DVD player / phone / DS in the car if you have the right adapters.

UFO lights or rechargeable lanterns for lighting & gas for cooking.

You'll be fine :)

I usually Freeze a 2 pinter of milk and take along a 1 pinter chilled, freeze any meals you will be making or components of meals and chuck them in your cool box.

A typical weekend for us ( we never have electric) is pasta pesto first night with crusty bread. Breakfast is cereal or brioche. Lunch is sandwiches or a snack while out and about.

Tea is usually a BBQ (disoposable one) with meat that is now hopefully defrosted. Breakfast on sunday is (defrosted) bacon sarnies.

If you marinade your meat for a BBQ a tip I have given on here before is to put the marinade and the meat in a bag and freeze that. Then chuck it in the coolbox ready for your BBQ.

Hope this helps.

I always take one of the thicker snappy lights (glow sticks) for the kids to have on each night. We hang it in their bedroom compartment & it gives them a small amount of light if they wake up.

I freeze a pack of bacon & 1pt of milk to keep in the cool box for day 2.

Take an old mat/rug to put at the entrance of the tent, very useful to stop muddy feet tracking inside all day long.

Make sure you've got enough bedding/blankets so you are not cold at night.

A pack of baby wipes normally come in handy and don't forget to take some easy to slip on shoes, such as flip flops. Cropped trousers are normally the best thing to wear as full length ones can get easily wet on dewy grass.

Enjoy your trip!

Great food ideas from Coffee and Chocolate (Yum!) A small thing, but can I suggest a small mirror for your tent and a dustpan and brush so that you can brush the tent out at the end.

Hope the weather will be OK for you - if not a decent lantern for inside the tent and a couple of board games and a pack of cards.

Oh, and WINE.

Take a flask and put your leftover hot water in it after you have had your cuppa, saves getting everything out again for another one.

Have a good look at the tinned food in Sainsbury's or M&S - chilli etc.
There are some breakfasts in pouches, too - sauteed potatoes, bacon and onions.
And a range called 'Look what we found' which does excellent main meals that don't need chilling. Not cheap though.

If camping in a big group we usually take a pre-prepared casserole type dish or curry for the first night, a 'one pot' dish that can be heated over the stove. The BBQ the second night.

Herta frankfurters are good to heat in boiling water for a hot dog.

Take lots of fruit like satsumas to ensure some healthy input. And cherry toms.

Actually we are ambitious with our BBQs and do corn on the cobs, asparagus, have a BBQ wok in which we can do marinaded mushrooms, felafels, 'squeaky cheese', and we always have a campfire and do baked potatoes in the embers.

Take a pack of wraps or chapatis, put them in a frying pan on your stove, grate on cheese, add a slosh of bottled sauce (such as Lloyd grossman pasta sauce or even the tomato salsa dip from Doritos) cook, then flip over and cook again - for quesadillas.

I second the games/cards ideas. There's a lot more time in a day when you're camping! And extra batteries, too.

We like to cook hot dogs over the campfire. We also do s'mores (and while I personally think they are horrible, kids like them!)

If you have a campfire, you can wrap potatoes in tinfoil and stick them in the embers for cooked taters. You can make them into hash browns in the morning if they are there overnight (and cooked).

We take a big dutch oven and fill it with veggies, soup and noodles, then put a layer of biscuit dough over the top. It makes a lovely pot pie.
