Camping next weekend - v. out of practice. What do I need to take?

Not the obvious things like tent, cooker, bedding etc We are only going for 2 nights - to Duinrell - but what do I need to take for an easy life?

Last time I went camping, the site had fast-food (healthy stuff) vans. So night 1 we had boil in the bag rice with homemade curry (that had been frozen), and night two ate from the vans.

Weather depending you may want to take cards, inflatable ball, swimming stuff, sunblock, wellies...

For washing/cleaning we had some biodegradable skin wipes/surface wipes.

Sorry, probably not much help here. :)

Pre-prepared or easy food Wink barbie optional.
Call me mad, but we take spare tarpaulin and bunch of random small carpet pieces for in the doorway, to wipe feet, take off shoes etc. And crocs for the kids. For toilet / tap / bin trips.
Bit of washing line for hanging wet towels out.

Ooh some great ideas - I have "travel" washing line - will dig it out. Wet wipes yes. I bought these big waterproof squares to go in the tent entrance. Bin bags!

In the cheapy shops you can get a thing that looks like a basketball hoop/toilet seat. You clip your bin bag to it, so that your rubbish doesn't go everywhere. It also has a hook/clip to attach it to your tent.

We used an old shower curtain as an impromptu spare ground sheet, shoved a towel on top of it just inside the doorway.

No-wash hand gel was useful too!

the bin thing sounds good - not sure if I will have time to go look though. Question - if we have electricity on our pitch - can I just plug a normal extension cable into it? Or do I need some kind of converter. We would use standard european 2 pin plugs.

Ooh sorry - we have only pitched at non-powered sites. Hopefully someone else can help? :)

You need the round ended mains plug with a three pin domestic oe on the other end. Not very expensive, back with a link in a mo. When are you going?

MrsShrek3 · 26/08/2012 21:24

I've got this one you can get cheaper single / double slightly cheaper it depends how much stuff you want to plug in. Wink

Scuse multiple posting. Common sense says to me that it's better to get one with more sockets than you'll need Wink the dses always put chargers and stuff on any spare ones anyway. Would not like to have to plug a domestic four-way into the extension on a wet campsite.

Thanks for all the advice. I checked the Duinrell website and it says 4 or 6 amp european plug - so we should be OK. We are off on Friday - just for the weekend.
