What do you sleep on when you go camping

So my children really really want to go camping next week.
Last time we went I didn't sleep at all because my airbed was so flippin' uncomfortable.
I've tried to put them off but to no avail so help - how do you get comfy at night
And should I care that the weather forecast is not so good for Suffolk next week ?
Need a glass or two just thinking about it

Thermarests. Only problem I find is that they're a bit narrow.

Kingsize double height airbed with a memory foam matteress topper. I sleep under my winterweight duvet and also put a sheet over the topper.

I also put sleep mats (the cheap ones) under the airbed to help insulate it as they can become cold. Cardboard works just as well underneath - but be sure to make sure there are no rough edges or staples.

true about the narrow.
we use 3 mats in a 2person berth, so that we have the ground covered.
prevents rolling off as well.
airbeds are pretty shite for camping (unless you spend £££), your bum hangs on the cold ground half the night and your hips are bent at a funny angle.

Second self-inflating mattresses covering the whole sleeping area.

We sleep on 8inch thick foam mattresses, but only as we have a trailer tent not a standard tent. Our boys sleep on single airbeds. We all have duvets too

We've got the Argos readybeds, a double for dh and I and a single each for dcs. We got them originally as we needed something cheap to replace the airbeds/sleeping bags combo that we had (our favourite site has a slight slope and the dcs kept ending up in a heap at the bottom of the airbed due to slippery sleeping bags Grin), but they are actually pretty good and we haven't yet found the need to replace them well not enough to justify self-inflating mats I've been eyeing up in camping shop. We do put a fleece under each to stop cold coming up and the dcs have fleecy liners for when cold, dh and I have a thicker fleece to go over the top of ours as they aren't thick. Nice and easy to wash the covers too.

BTW they were half price when we got them - hence cheap! Smile

Cheers everyone
am off to check Argos and stock up on the vino

We got 5 cm thick self inflating mattresses from aldi and put foam camping mat underneath. Much warmer and more comfortable than thick air bed. Good sleeping bag and less clothing also helps with warmth as your body heat is reflected back.

I use cheap thin sleeping mat ,self inflating mat fro Decathalon and two ( slightly overlapped where my hips go ) sheepskin carseat/wheelchair pad things that Lidls stock every now and then .
Sit on them in car for journey .

gordyslovesheep · 25/08/2012 19:53

smalls have single airbeds with fleeces on top, then sleeping bags and/or duvets

I have a very nice camping bed which I find more comfy than an air bed
