Hello we go on our first camping trip as a family in 3 weeks, we have decided we are going to take the dog, we are planning a practice run next week locally to put up the new tent for the frst time and to try it out for one night with our toddler and dog to see how we fair before we make a final decision.

Are we mad? FIL is a hardened camper (but not an animal lover) and he says its not possible and we cant do it, he says people who take dogs have caravans not tents?! He caravans several times a year and says he has never seen it.
We are planning on three nights and its a walking/biking trip so we think he would love it....so have any of you taken your dogs? Im hoping he is talking out of his backside on this.

You can always put him in a pup tent!

We take out doddle with us most of the time, he loves it.
We take stake thing and he sits outside with us, and at night we crate him. Only thing to consider is if you want to do days out with kids and what to do with dog if not allowed.

We've taken our dog camping.
Dog slept in the car, you need to have a stake or similar and a lead to tether them to - some sites will insist on dogs on leads at all times.
On our holiday this year (we didn't take our dog as the car and trailer was full) there were lots of people camping in tents with dogs - one group of friends had all brought dogs with them who were obviously seasoned campers and incredibly well behaved (the dogs that is) and the dogs had their own tent! With lots of beds inside it looked very cosy.

soft crate and warm bed (with cover not fastened but over it iyswim) is warm enough...and keeps her quiet)

Stowford farm meadows in Devon, it's near woolacoombe. They have a doggy kennels where you just leave them for as long as you need, cheap too! Our dog loves camping, the only reason he doesn't come now is space in he car!!

We're going to take our 1 yr old bonkers cocker spaniel in a couple of weeks. Got a stake and a long line and we're going to have her sleep in with us in our bedroom at night. Not going far so if it's a complete nightmare, we're coming home! Grin
