We have a lovely shiny new Iceytek - have heard about precooling but not quite sure how to go about this? Also what is the best way to maximise its use? Have just searched some previous threads and found people saying use ice cubes changing every 2-3 days, does this work effectively?

Mine is also new and shiny. I'm sure someone experienced will come along, but I'm planning to put a huge frozen obottle of water in for 24hrs before hand. All food will be pre cooled or frozen and carefully packed. I have th big iceytek cool block and some others, but when I'm away if I haven't access to freezers, I'll buy bags of ice from the shops.

Thanks for speedy reply, that link is great. Read one old thread where someone had frozen loads of ice cube bags and used them to slot around food after precooling, which I think is a brilliant idea - am off to start freezing now!

Will freeze some water too - have got my 3 Iceytek packs in freezer already. Really interested to see that you don't drain off the water from the melted ice, that is exactly what I would have done but can see why not now (total cooler novice)

I pre-chill the box with old plastic water bottles filled with tap water, frozen and then put in the Icey Tek as many days in advance as possible, or more likely, when I remember. The more frozen bottles you can get in the better, to really get it cold.

Then I pre-freeze as much as possible, burgers, sausages, bacon etc.

Then when packing I swap the bottles of old water for cold freezer blocks, and a couple of frozen ice cube bags, and a gel mat thing (from sainsbury;s), and another bottle of frozen water.

I took my Icey tek away on Fri lunch time, and when I brought it home Sun eve the white wine was still icy cold, the water still mostly frozen, and that was after a day left in a hot car in the sun yesterday. (but I did put the sleeping bags on top).

I am disciplined about not leaving it open, or opening it uneccessarily all day.
