We have a tent very similar to this if not this actual one (after a pregnancy and shitty weatehr we have yet to use it)

I would like us to do a little bit of camping this summer, just local to us, as a test for DD who is 7mo. We have a mini air bed and a mini sleeping bag, and she is very long (taller than the 1 year olds we know) so hoping these will be fine.

However, where do I actually put the airbed? We have a double airbed for us, and im wary that her little air bed (which is only half the height of ours) next to ours could pose a risk if she jiggles around too much.

Bar co-sleeping, where do you actually put your babies to sleep in a tent?

I have been wondering this too as would like to save up for a 2 bedroom tent. I would have liked DS to sleep in the other room but I am not sure if this would be safe.

GnocchiNineDoors · 01/08/2012 23:36

I did think we could sleep in the main part, and DD in the bedroom at the back, but then, should I unzip the panel between us so she gets the extra body heat, or will it be really cold in the 'living room' (arf) bit at the front?

I put ds on a roll up travel mat when we camped. It was quite a fancy one though, the sort you put a tiny bit of air in but its really comfortable. (i had it pre children when i went back packing). And he slept in one of those all in one snow suit things, but it was winter. Best he ever slept in those early days.

Noqontrol · 01/08/2012 23:39

Oh and i put him next to me.

CheddarsintheRunning · 01/08/2012 23:39

Could you take a pop-up travel cot? Something with sides as well as a base. I would be reluctant to have a 7mo in the situation you describe.

GnocchiNineDoors · 01/08/2012 23:41

Yes, I do feel we need some sides between our mattress and hers, or in separate compartments.

My DS has always slept on a camping mat. A camp stretcher like an army style one would be a better idea though as would prevent rolling off.

IIRC he used to sleep in his own bedroom in the tent until he woke in the night and would come in with me and ex.

What is your DD used to sleeping in at home, a bed or a cot? Is she mobile?

GnocchiNineDoors · 02/08/2012 22:05

She sleeps in her cot at home, and while sleeping is immobile, when she wakes she has a tendancy to rotate. We don;t always hear her as she likes to just chunter away to herself and then go back to sleep, but obviously in a tent we would hear her better,.

We used to take a camping travel cot - do they not make them any more?

thingamajig · 02/08/2012 22:11

Its probably not the done thing, but we have slept our babies in their pushchairs inside the tent. They are off the ground, somewhere familiar, and can be kept a bit darker under the hood. They weren't in the habit of rolling over, so I put the seat down fully flat, put the old moses basket mattress under them and did the chest bits of the harness up to keep them safe, though in a tent I am awake as soon as they are.

GnocchiNineDoors · 02/08/2012 22:18

Shock how did I not think of the buggy? I have a storller which lies totally flat too, and already has a padded extra seat liner on it too. She naps in it, and does so really well that of course that would make sense.

They do do camping travel cots but they look tiny, and DD is a whopper - although only 7mo she is looooonnnngggg.

I got something similar to this from Asda for a fiver a few weeks ago. Would this be any good?

WidowWadman · 02/08/2012 22:35

Littlelife Arc2 travelcot is ideal - its sides slope (as it's built like a tent) and therefore fits perfectly right next to the tentwall and doesn't take up too much space. Also comes with a set of pegs so you can pitch it as outdoors babycage too.

GnocchiNineDoors · 02/08/2012 22:36

Oooh, that definetly looks more safe. Looks mahoosive though, so we would have to sleep in a separate compartment anyways which negates the need to have her in a safe bed iyswim.

On a blow up next to us whe he was abut older.

I'd use a travel cot, but out tent is big.

poocatcherchampion · 02/08/2012 22:42

We are going for the camp tent, so poss not suitable for you, but regarding positioning we are putting her at the top, above our heads, and would have done that without cot too. Hths

MrsMc82 · 02/08/2012 23:31

We used a travel cot till last weekend and ds is 2.5 so she might be fine in a travel cot despite being a tall wee thing........?

Lailasmana1 · 03/08/2012 00:33

Sorry new to this website - I've been taking my granddaughter camping since the age of 6 months. Started using a regular travel cot (our tent was a five man which could either be one large room - zip separating- or one large room. As my granddaughter is very tall we soon moved her onto a child's blow up ready bed (Argos) now she is four we have moved her to her own inflatable mattress and child's sleeping bag. Hope this helps.

flubba · 04/08/2012 16:58

We used a little life arc2 too - and have used them also for travel cots when staying at friends. Great and can be used during the day for a play area too.
