Wild Camping with children

On 5o things to do before you are 11 3/4, it lists wild camping. We love camping and I would love to take the kids wild camping, but am certain that there are restritions as to where this can be done. I don't have a car and live in Cambridgeshire (but happy to use public transport). Does anybody have any advice/suggest locations? I can't afford to get to Dartmoor which I understand is a good place to Wild Camp. My dauughter is 11 and my son is 9. Thanks.

I think technically you can't wild camp in England but it's overlooked if you leave no trace and stay away from livestock/residential dwellings dtc etc. we've done it in the lake district - again technically not allowed unless above 500ft/m (I can't remember).

Come to Scotland. Lots of opportunities for wild camping. The only restricted area is around Loch Lomond. We often wild camp around Loch Rannoch and enjoy wild swimming too! Grin

I wish I could get to Scotland and Wild Camp, I think public transport to Scotland would cost more than staying in a hotel unfortunately.
It's strange how the National Trust have put wild camping on theiir list but don't allow use of their land.

don't worry its really not hard. when a student in cambridge I wild camped (ie slept in a sleeping bag with a plastic sheet under me and/or a tarpaulin-no tent) in the gog mago hills, shellbourne (sp?) nature reserve, by the chalk pits at the very far end of mill road and beyond. Many places. I'd choose a dry night and rock up about 8 (by bike), eat sandwiches and sleep the night. I'd be gone by 9:00am. Very little stuff needed and no impact (bury any pooh under a rock and burn or remove in a bag loo roll)
