Junior or full size sleeping bag for child

What's the downside of getting a grown-up size sleeping bag for a child?
Am thinking we'll get more use out of it if it lasts beyond a few years but is there a downside?
Probably a stupid question - sorry!

I don't think there is one. We got ready beds for both boys (normal ones, not toddler ones) once they moved on from a cot, and they haven't had any problems with them.

It depends on the age of the child. If they are really small they could wriggle down and not be able to breathe properly, but you can tie off and/or fold under the excess sleeping bag to prevent that. So long as it's a warm enough bag (3 season is a good bet) I don't think it matters though.

Age six/ seven so shouldn't be a problem?
While I'm here, what are the best matts for under the sleeping bag - inflatable or normal ones?

DD1 (8.7) and DD2 (6.11) have adult mummy bags, DS (2.10) has a junior bag. We've never had a problem.
We also have suncamp canvas beds for them after the airbeds all got punctures. £14.95 for canvas on low legs, and they all sleep soundly!

My dses had junior ones (called 'midi') - ds2 (8) has just got a new one as he's worn the other one out, it's had so much use and so many washes it's gone flat!! The new one is a three season midi and will do him a few years (presumably when he wears this out he's going to need a full size one. Ds1 has an adult one now but he's 11. Personally wouldn't buy a child an adult size bag because all my children wriggle down the sleeping bag. Underneath we use those weirdy self inflating foam mats. Fantastic things. We only camp about four weeks a year so it's fine. If we did more I'd want camp beds Wink. We do mostly caravanning.

Our have been in full size since aged 2 + 4. I think it's true that you get colder if there's more space round you; we dress our boys in cotton and fleece pyjamas and they are always warm. They tend to migrate out of their bags (and round the sleeping area) anyway. Last night i wole to find 2 heads on my pillow and neither of them was mine...
