We're thinking of going camping on Friday...we'd like Abersoch or Angelsey but would love to be right by the beach....are there any like this? I've googled and they all seem to be 10 minutes from the beaches.

Are there any campsites you'd reccomend...we're open minded and wouldn't mind not ging to these areas if anther site is right on the beach and is lovely....

Also...we're doing it REALLY basically...we haven't got much euipment...a 4 man tent (small for four of us really but hey ho...the DC are only 8 and 4....what equipment would you say is VERY necassary?

We have a windbreak, bbq, lamps, air beds, but not much more...

TBF I think you are probably better off a short way from the beach as it can get wickidly windy if you are right by the beach.

There is a site very near the beach an lovely walks across the dunes at Rhosniger on Anglesey, the only draw back is that it is v near the runway for RAF Valley [Where prince Wills works].

If you like planes and helicopters it is fab and they only fly during the day, starting at about 8 ish.

Dont know what the site is like for facilities you could check it out on UK Campsite.

I think a kettle and cool bag are very necessary and a warm jacket each in case it goes chilly, there is nothing worse than being cold.

Good luck wherever you end up.

Sorry the one I was thinking of doesnt seem to be on Uk campsite. and the spelling of the town is Rhosneigr.

ITA w Ineedalife. The other thing is that beaches in Anglesey divide roughly into 2 types: the big windy ones, and the small busy ones. A lot of camp sites will be close to the small busier ones (Trearddur, Cemaes, Benellech &c) and you have to decide if that's your thing or not. The geography of the island is that the beaches are joined by a road round the outside which is fairly slow and prone to tractors, but there's a huge A-road across the middle which takes you to the ferries at Holyhead in one direction, and the mainland which is where more activities are in the other. So our approach is to be bang in the middle in reach of everything rather than have 1 specific beach on the doorstep.

There's a pile of reviews of Anglesey camp sites here

There is one I've stayed in at benllech that is right on the coast, lovely sea views. Think it was called sunset park?

KissMyEmbroideryHoop · 23/07/2012 00:46

Oh I think we stayed there once too Beaver...itwas very nice but they didn't enforce the no music or noise after 10.30 thing and we were kept awake all night by the Missing Link family from hell...complete with big, ape-like Mum who swore at her DC all the time and then spent all night singing at the top of her voice! She went around to the tent of some young 18 or 19 year olds an tried to make frends with them! These poor kids were like Confused and wondering why some awful woman pisshead was bothering them.

vile people.. I have bad memories of it!

I'm sorry, didn't realise I was so noisy! Grin

No, honestly wasn't me.

When I stayed we had the big field to ourselves, it was early May. I would imagine in August it could be quite busy.

I'm trying to remember - is there a site up near Rhoscolyn? I imagine you'll get a different bunch of campers there, much like Rhosneigr it's a watersports type of area so I guess more Swallows-&-Amazons types. Rhosneigr is a very windy beach - great for kite surfing, but I imagine the campsites there are windy too. Rhoscolyn is more sheltered. It's not a perfect sandy beach, but if you like walking you can walk over the headland to Trearddur Bay some days.

There is Bagnol in Treaddur. Although I stay in a caravan there, and they do not have a no music after 10.30pm rule either. Some twatty family kept me awake all night over the last half term. Singing, dancing and then bloody arguing.

But it is close to the beach Grin

Thanks for this thread, just got back after a stay at Rhosneigr.

Can I just say, that the site is lovely, the beach is fantastic, but the wind was out of this world. Thankfully tent is still OK but we got very little sleep on 2 nights.

We've heard it's best to camp in the middle of the island if you like a restful campsite.

Loved the planes though.

Mandy21 · 24/08/2012 18:17

Also had a bad experience at Bagnol - had one good night then came home after a day out to find that a family from Liverpool and their 52 relatives (not quite 52 but it seemed like it) had camped within inches (and I mean inches) of our tent (had 2 x 4 yr olds and a 10 month old) and were incredibly noisy. That was on one side of the the tent. The other side was Mr & Mrs Hard-of-Hearing that played a DVD (the complete series of Benidorm!!) really loudly until about 12.30am.
