Inspired by the thread about festival peeing, which I can't find, I just thought I'd share my own DIY disposable peebags.
You will need, a small bucket, or stability device, we use the portapotti from ds was potty training, some resonably sized nappy sacks, the biodegradeable ones are good, however the value ones are a but small and thin, and a packet of value nappies, Tesco size 5 are the ones I've been testing with.
Open nappies and cut out absorbant pad, cut pad into 3 equal rectangles. This gives you 60 absorbant pads for £1.41 currently, that's a lot more wees for you pound than a travel John.
Line your bucket, potty, with the nappy sack, put pad in bottom, pee, tie up bag and dispose of in rubbish. My not very scientific testing, measuring jug of water, shows that each pad will hold around 400 ml of water before it reaches max capacity, big enough I reckon for even a morning wee :)
I've not tried peeing directly into a bag with a shewee, but i might practice :)
The whole lot packs up nice and small, though the potty requires a small bum, better ideas for a small stability device are welcome.

festival going women world wide thank you for your essential research,

you might get told off in the green fields at Glastonbury, for not using the composting loo's.

In return I shall share a top tip that I have used in over thirty years of festival attendants, when going to the loo's for a poo, look down if it is a long drop, in case long john has come back, known for hiding in the tank,

and use two bits of screwed up loo roll to shove up your nose so you can stand it in there,

and never ever use any loo's located near the dance tent, or any stage that plays repetitive beats.

thrifty would you like to collaborate on putting together a coffee table book on the "art of toilet in a festival location", I feel once we include a chapter on shepees we would be half way there.

LOL, quote, noted its note very environmentally friendly, but of course for night times etc. I go to my first festival next week, with ds, so trying to do everything on the cheap. And save my money for the overpriced food, booze and trolley hire.
I also note what you say about loo roll up the nose, was a bit confused about the longjohns on the tank? Thank you for the tip :)
I have yet to try out my shewee, I know it makes sense to have a practice, I feel there must be a knack to it, that I will, of course share for your book :)

wheel barrows work well for transporting stuff, including children.

thrifty · 18/07/2012 17:56

Yes, don't have room for a wheel barrow, unfortunately, ds is nearly 7 now, so he can transport himself :) I borrowed my neighbors fishing trolley, but it looked in danger of collapsing under the weight, and i buggered if I'm making 2 trips, so am opting for the trolley hire, I may hire a man to push it for me and treat myslf with the money I've saved on traveljohns :)

Foldable wheelbarrow

Migsy1 · 18/07/2012 21:56

Can I also suggest cat litter instead of nappies? You can get cat litter now that is made up of granules that are similar to the stuff in nappies.

Migsy1 · 18/07/2012 21:58

and be careful not to use the sheewee the wrong way round when pissed Shock

thrifty · 18/07/2012 21:59

Ooo, really, that is good to know migsy, would have been a darn site easier than cutting up nappies :) does it form a gel?

thrifty · 18/07/2012 22:01

LOL, migsy, have you used one?
