What sleeping bag?

DS (8) is off to Cub camp in August
Kit list says that they need sleeping bags. DS's old sleeping bag was a little too small and as we normally take duvets we never bothered to replace it (I am a serial sleeping bag hater who is likely to commit a murder if hemmed in by a zip round my legs)
I have had a poke around and have found sleeping bags ranging from £6(!) to well over £50. As he will doubtless be using it in the future it makes sense to buy a decent one so what should we be looking for? I guess he really needs an adult size now and I am well aware I will get what I pay for.
Cub camp is actually in chalets on a PGL site so getting cold is not a problem THIS TIME! If I buy a 2-3 season bag, will it be too hot for sleeping indoors in?
At the moment I like the look of the Vango Nitestar but any recommendations would be appreciated :)

I would go for a 3 season or 4 so he can sleep outdoors if he needs to in future, if he is hot, he can always sleep with the zip undone!

I have a vango nitestar which is fab and was recommended on here last year. Boys have the kids versions. It's years since I used any others so no comparisons but it's 2-3 season which is great and if he was ever going away when it was cold you could always get a liner.

I was recommended this one .. Vango 300 SQ as DS didn't like mummy shaped bags...we've both been really impressed- well made and cosy- feels like will last for ever.....lots of places have it.. hth

Ds is a tall 7 and not swamped in it but room for growth too...as it had a DofE label on it told him its got too last til he's old enough for that!

If I was buying a sleeping bag now I would get the vango nitestar as well, probably a 350 or 450, i.e 3-4 season one. Nitestars come in square and mummy shaped versions (though with slightly different weights, I think the square ones are a tad less warm) if your DS has a preference. Being too hot is easy to remedy - being to cold is hellish Grin

Thanks all, a Nitestar I think it will be then. DS likes those mummy bags so it's off to find the cheapest site now (then convince DH it "is an investment"!) :)
