Come and talk to me about walkie-talkies...

I've got a sudden urge to buy a set and either need some talking out of it if it's a crazy idea, or advice of which ones (not too £££) to go for if we do.

We're going camping week after next in la belle France and have romantic notions of using it between me and DH when one he is washing up and the other me obviously! is drinking wine back at the tent and I can call him on the walkie talkie to say romantic things like "make sure you scrub the pans well" and "watch out, I've sent all our kids to help you" :o

Also have ideas of the kids heading off with them (eldest is only 5 though) and being able to radio to us when they get scared by the campsite donkey Hmm

Have any of you got them and do you swear by them, or am I just mental and should save my money for some much-needed umbrellas?

We've got some 'science museum' ones from Argos but I'm not sure they do them anymore.

They work well for our ds (10) he can go off to the playpark or off round the site on his bike and we know we can contact each other any time.

He did learn one lesson though and that was don't cycle and speak (you have to hold the button in to talk) whilst going over the speed humps on your bike! CRASH! - at least we could tell us he'd crashed lol.

Thanks, had a quick look on argos just now and they only have three sets of kids' ones that have a very short range and not good reviews. Have been looking on ebay but not sure whether to go for it or not.

We take our skiing as they have a 3km range, and they are right handy for meeting and checking etc.

Not sure about camping though tbh - especially since your LO's are only young. My DH would 'accidentally' drop his walkie talkie in the wash/pond/river/pool/toilet if I were to tell him to scrub the pans better though Grin

Haha, yes mine probably would too! What make are yours?

Now you've just made me very Envy of skiing too! :)

I ski beautifully apart from when I'm sliding on my bony arse for most of the time

Funnily enough, I ski better when I'm mildly pissed Grin

I'll ask DH what make they are when he gets home.

Aha! My memory works.

Binatone Long Range.

Cool, thank you. I think those are the ones I was looking at on ebay. Oooh, I love the idea of them! Must sit on hands so I can't buy some online :o

We bought our first set for a trip to Disney, Florida, and they were brilliant for co-ordinating meeting up after queuing for rides etc. Mobile phones were not so good and didn't work in US then (2000).

Kids used them many a time in France when they went off on bikes. Best convo was from DS in a Forest site. "I can't find the caravan, I'm by a tree!". Luckily he could find the swimming pool and we talked him back.

The ones we have now work in car convoys! They are really worth getting if you get ones with a decent range and changeable frequency. (Amazing how many people use them in some places).

Thanks Milli
