Keeping warm - tent bedroom carpet?

Having gone camping over a particular for the past few years we've just invested in a 5-man, 2 bedroom tent. It has an integral groundsheet but as it's likely to get cold at night I was wondering if there is anywhere that sells reasonable (ok, cheap) carpet for tent bedrooms?

It's this tent which has annoyingly now been reduced! :(

Plan is that we have one bedroom with inflatable mattress etc, and DD has her travel cot in the other. However, anything to make it warmer in there will be great. The site has no electrical hook ups.

TIA

For a cheap option how about some of those picnic blankets that the National Trust sell? They're waterproof/plastic on one side and material on the other.

This, though I'm shocked at the price. I got one a few years ago for £15.

cheaper

Ihave just bought a jumbo sized pic nic mat from Asda for £6 (i think) It wont have been much because I am skint at themmo but I reckon this will do the same job as a carpet.

For warmth though you cannot beat cardboard. Just flattend supermarket boxes. I out these under all our beds in the tent to insulate from the cold and it makes a huge difference. I also use cardboard in the tent doorway when its wet and muddy to prevent it getting too bad. It works surprisingky well and is free.

I usually do a supermarket shop the day after arriviung on campsite and get my boxes then, so I dont have the panic as to whether it will all fit in the car.

You could use roll mats too if you have them.

Thanks all - I am sure I can get hold of some cardboard boxes which we can flatten and use. I'll check out the picnic blankets too.
I just found some old utility blankets (belonged to my parents) which might work, although possibly a bit slippery if they're going directly on/under cardboard.
Got a few weeks to get sorted though. :)

Cheapo fleece bankers in ikea too for warmth.

If the tent has just been reduced and you bought it recently check go outdoors price match policy - I think it also includes them reducing the price but I could be wrong...

We have some "jigsaw mats" can't remember actual name but sure you know the ones I mean? They are foam and four different colours, ours were from tescos 4x £7, they are brilliant and we use them at home too... For our rolly polly mad daughter! Saw some in aldi the other day too. You can obviously buy one pack or as many as you like and join them all together. I'm always a fan of things that can be used not just for camping!!! not slippy either.
I've just looked on tesco website couldn't see them but they are normally in store. There are lots on amazon but seem more expensive than tesco and aldi. I typed in foam play mats. Hope this helps! X

Have you got the receipt for a refund on your tent? You could re-buy it at the cheaper price.

NotGeoffVader · 09/07/2012 10:02

Thanks Migsy - I do have the receipt but when we bought it, it was during a particular 'deal' that they had. The reduced price is only a few ££ different from what we paid anyway; I'm not really bothered, as at the price it is now, there would be no further reduction, IYSWIM.

Hattie that's a good idea too. I'll take a look online at Tesco and Asda. I think I saw them in Argos too, so will shop around a bit to see what's cheapest.

Queen, Viva, I am watching some rugs on ebay too.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

Last time I went camping I put a throw on the 'bedroom' floor, then the air bed, then a throw as an undersheet, then fitted sheet, then duvet on top. Toasty. Also used a throw as a carpet under DS's travel cot, and he was in a gro-bag at the time. He was fine too. Bubble wrap would probably be good as well as cardboard.

MrsJaneyT · 10/07/2012 23:19

We went camping last weekend and used these They stayed put, we didn't slip on them and we were toasty! Also, easy to shake out the crumbs too.

NotGeoffVader · 11/07/2012 11:38

I shall take myself off to Argos, forthwith! :)

I use the silver foil like emergency blanket things on the floor. I try and remember to put them down when the tent is erect but bedrooms not yet in .they fold up to nothing so lots if warmth and none of the packing space used Grin found in most pound shop Wink

Foil blanket things sound good, will have to get some. I saw those 'jigsaw' mats in Aldi, and would have got some for in the porch but thought they'd take up too much packing space.
Lol at bubble wrap, think we'd need earplugs as well to get any sleep, the way dh flings himself around in the night. Grin
