Ok so I am back from a fantastic weekend wild camping - organised site but camping in the woods with no facilities and campfires and I need more campfire gadgets!

I have the landmann tripod bbq bought in anticipation of this trip and am coveting a storm kettle and Dutch oven. I have heard talk of pie irons but is there anything else I want need?

A fire steel for lighting fires without matches? Keeps DS occupied for ages!

magic toasting fork You just put a stick through it as a handle , it grips it tight and any stick can be turned into a toasting fork! Good for sausages, frankfurters, marshmallows.

I am hankerin after a pie iron of some description.

Where did you go?

Ooh i'm liking the idea of a fire steel. How does it work and how long does it take to get actual fire?

I like those toasting fork thingies but the boys toasting marshmallows is a bit blink and you've missed it so not entirely sure it would work until they have an attention span longer than a goldfish!

We went to Brockwell Woods near Newcastle. Bloody great place. I've left a review in the reviews section.

Ooh, that looks fab except for the 'dig your own toilets'. That is a step too far for me!

A fire steel - well you have a mini steel and a scraper and you make sparks - I have only actually lit a fire once with it (after about 10 mins trying), but have watched a video on how to do it now, an could probably manage better if DS hadn't lost his steel last time we went camping.

I took our luggable loo and some 'nature calls' environment friendly toilet chemical stuff. We used that then dug a hole and buried the contents before we left. I thought we'd need to regularly change it while we were there to stop it stinking but all you could smell was lovely fresh pine! It lived outside during the day but even in the smallish porch of our tent at night it didn't smell. So although I wasn't desperately relishing the idea of that either it definitely wasn't too bad.
