Camping in france in September - good idea?

We are thinking about going camping this year with canvas staying in a tent in south of france (languedoc roussion area).
We are trying to decide whether to go at the end of August or mid September. September is much much cheaper but I am worried it will be too cold. I know you can never guarantee the weather we just want it to be warm enough for our dd (18months) to be able to use the pool as it is a cheap, easy way of keeping her entertained.

Has anyone been to this area in September - is the weather usually ok?

Yes will be fine. In fact better than august for an 18month old as you will have no problem with being too hot at night.
Lovely beach at Argeles sur mer - long wide and sandy.
Also all the french will be back at work so will be nice and uncrowded.
To be sure, why not go beginning of september?

Thanks for the advice

I am an accountant (hence the name) so the first week and a half of every month are a no go for holidays.
I think we will go for September - we don't want to start paying expensive school holiday prices until we have to :)

Be aware that a lot of places will be closed in September - especially by the coast. This can feel a bit desolate. We went to Serignan Plage a couple of years ago arriving 13 Sept. and it was lovely (pretty much all still open but low key) whilst some of the holiday towns nearby (Vias/Valras Plage) were strangely ghost like despite lovely weather (24/25 degrees or there abouts). It was a bargain as low season and we booked direct with Yelloh who tend to keep the best pitches on their sites to themselves. I would recommend a late season break but pick your site carefully as on many sites, nearly all the services close down on or just before end August. Serignan Plage also has an indoor pool for little ones in case the weather isn't as great as it was for us.

True, most of them back at work, along with all the germans, dutch, russians, english, etc.etc., that the french share their beaches with.Wink

I first took DS to the Camargue area when he was 2 in the beginning of September. The weather was fantastic but TBH it was too hot on occasions for a toddler to be out and about for a good part of some days. Never satisfied us Brits :)
