North Wales camping - any good campsites?

We're off to N. Wales first week of Aug, but I'm wondering about which campsite... Read the reviews about Beddgelert and the midges, and the quieter one down the road by the lake and they are not really grabbing me - as I'll be with a 4 and 2 year old. ( and occasionally the dh, but that's another story).
Anybody got any good ones around the Llanberis / Beddgelert area? (Fingers crossed with a little play area?):o

the one in llanberis is great. I think thereis only 1. It is slopey a bit but there are flat bits. It can be midgy but choose somewhere away from the trees and you'll be OK. Llanberis is perfect for kids-so much to do, small train (the one round the lake is MUCH cheaper than the one up snowdon), great park, fabby free slate museum where you can also see steam trains AND watch divers in the disued quarry. Ancient welsh castele with steep spiral staircase (also free) and fabby cafees.

I have stayed at the one by the lake, but it is a remote spot, they allow campfires and it was exactly what we wanted, I would go back, nice laid back atmosphere, toilet block/showers/Washing up all basic but functional and clean.

There are 2 others nearby, one was very regimented, lots of signs and rules www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=5252 Is that the one you mean?

The other was in the forest www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=2828 and looked nice, but we wanted a campfire.

We stayed at the second one Andie linked to. It was great, wet of course, but good fun. It had a lovely little play area, a steam train that stopped ran to the side of the site, a river at one side (but it wasn't easy to stray into) and a stream, which was easier to get at so the 2 year old may wonder into it. We all had a great time. I didn't notice any midges but of course it rained for most of the stay Grin. My two were 10 and 4 and still talk about going back.

We've stayed at a nice site called Eisteddfa near Criccieth - little park for the kids, 5 mins into Criccieth for the beach and Cadwalladers ice cream
Might be a bit out of your way if you want Llanberis though.....

this is the link here

Thanks everyone, for your suggestions. Andie and Peskypiskie, I think we will probably end up in the forest. I shall keep her on a short rein away from the water though! Wink

Have also stayed at Eistedffa and it had gorgeous views, up the mountains and down the coast. Friendly. Bit tricky to find a flat spot, but that meant lots of space round the tents. Have heard Bedgellert is very dark and a bit dank.

Eistedffa is wonderful, couldn't recommend it highly enough.
